Leeds United 0-0 Chelsea: Player ratings as blunt Blues held at Elland Road

Chelsea endured a frustrating afternoon as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday, as Thomas Tuchel extended his unbeaten run as Blues boss to 12 games.

A hotly contested opening 45 minutes saw both sides denied by the woodwork, with Chelsea inches away from taking the lead after a Leeds defensive mix-up saw the ball cannon off Diego Llorente and onto the crossbar, before Tyler Roberts' brilliant effort also bounced off the frame of the goal.

Illan Meslier produced a smart stop to deny Kai Havertz early on in the second half, before Edouard Mendy pulled off an even better save with Raphinha looking destined to hand Marcelo Bielsa's side the lead.

The game was there for the taking for both sides late on, but neither could find a real moment of quality to break the deadlock as the game ended in stalemate.

LEEDS PLAYER RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Illan Meslier (GK) - 7/10 - Produced a couple of smart saves from Havertz and showed a good command of his area.

Luke Ayling (RB) - 7/10 - Did a good job of offering width down the Leeds right as well as shackling Mason Mount. Withdrawn in the second half after picking up a knock.

Diego Llorente (CB) - 7/10 - Almost produced one of the most comical own goals of the season after the ball struck him and looped onto the crossbar. Defended very well on the whole and cut out a whole host of dangerous Chelsea crosses at the front post.

Pascal Struijk (CB) - 7/10 - Stood tall as the Chelsea pressure began to mount late on and he repelled anything the visitors threw at him.

Ezgjan Alioski (LB) - 5/10 - Struggled to contain the marauding Christian Pulisic and found himself chasing shadows for much of the afternoon.

2. Midfielders

Jack Harrison (RM) - 6/10 - Not noted for his defensive duties but he performed them very well and he did a good job of disrupting the flow of Ben Chilwell whenever he escaped his grasp.

Stuart Dallas (CM) - 6/10 - Combative in the midfield and did well to follow the runs of N'Golo Kante.

Tyler Roberts (AM) - 7/10 - Supported the attack very well and was desperately unlucky to see his brilliant curling effort bounce back off the crossbar. Did eventually find the back of the net only for the offside flag to curtail his joy.

Kalvin Phillips (CM) - 5/10 - Nearly cost Leeds a goal after some criminal defending allowed Havertz to just stroll through the home side's backline.

Raphinha (LM) - 6/10 - Unlucky not to open the scoring having been denied by a super save from Edouard Mendy.

3. Forwards

Patrick Bamford (ST) - 6/10 - Started brightly but picked up a knock midway through the first half and had to withdraw despite attempting to battle on. A disappointing end to the game against his former club.

4. Substitutes

Rodrigo (ST) - 5/10 - Introduced midway through the first half in place of the injured Patrick Bamford. Had little impact and was subbed off with 15 minutes to play.

CHELSEA PLAYER RATINGS

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Edouard Mendy (GK) - 7/10 - Kept the scores level early in the second half with a fantastic one-handed save when he looked to be beaten.

Cesar Azpilicueta (CB) - 7/10 - Not afraid to step into midfield and he surged forward on a number of occasions. Looks well suited to his role on the right of the back three.

Andreas Christensen (CB) - 6/10 - Looked settled at the heart of the Chelsea defence and showed composure and ability with the ball at his feet.

Antonio Rudiger (CB) - 6/10 - Similarly to Azpilicueta, the German showed a willingness to step forward and even took matters into his own hands with a decent speculative effort which was parried away by Meslier.

6. Wing-backs & midfielders

Christian Pulisic (RWB) - 7/10 - Often the most advanced Blues player on the pitch. Looked the Chelsea player most likely to create something as he utilised his pace down the right-hand side.

Jorginho (CM) - 6/10 - Standard. If he doesn't score a penalty there's rarely much more to say than 'he kept things ticking over' - which he did.

N'Golo Kante (CM) - 6/10 - Offered a bit more drive in the Chelsea midfield and looked to carry the ball between the lines. Clearly began to panic in the final third and produced one particularly memorable shocking effort. 10/10 for enthusiasm but little in the way of quality.

Ben Chilwell (LWB) - 6/10 - Shown up a little by Pulisic on the opposite flank, but that's not to say he didn't show endeavour down the Blues left - he just wasn't as good as the American.

7. Forwards

Hakim Ziyech (RW) - 5/10 - Drifted in and out of the game but showed glimpses of quality whenever he was on the ball. Withdrawn with 20 minutes to play after barely having a kick in the second half.

Kai Havertz (ST) - 6/10 - Led the line but also dropped back into midfield when Chelsea were out of possession. Had a couple of half-chances but was denied by Meslier.

Mason Mount (LW) - 5/10 - Drifted across the frontline but struggled to impact the play as much as we've seen him do in recent months.
