Leeds United host Brentford on Sunday afternoon as the two familiar Championship foes meet in England's top flight for the first time since 1947.

Both clubs were relegated together at the end of the first top tier campaign in the wake of World War II. After half a dozen shared seasons in England's second tier this past decade, the teams will be reacquainted this weekend as Brentford followed Leeds up the pyramid last summer.

Here's all you need to know about this renewed rivalry.

Leeds team news

The overwhelming injury list Leeds have constantly had clinging to their back is - whisper it quietly - beginning to reduce. Patrick Bamford played a full 90 minutes for the Under-23s on Monday and while this weekend will likely be too soon for his long-awaited return, Leeds may be able to cheer on their number nine in the near future.

Luke Ayling also featured at the start of the week but only lasted the first 45 minutes as he continues to build match fitness.

While Robin Koch recovers from groin surgery, Pascal Struijk was forced off in the first half against Crystal Palace in midweek following a flare-up of an existing issue.

Brentford team news

Josh Dasilva, after the best part of nine months out with a hip injury, made a heartwarming return to a light form of training this week. However, Dasilva joins Julian Jeanvier (knee) in the very early stages of his recovery on the grass.

First-choice goalkeeper David Raya is further behind in his return from a PCL injury while Mathias Jorgensen was ruled out of the midweek trip to Spurs with a persistent hamstring issue that has to be monitored weekly.

Club-record arrival Kristoffer Ajer isn't scheduled to be available until the other side of Christmas.

Leeds vs Brentford head-to-head record

These familiar foes from their shared seasons in the Championship between 2014 and 2020 have faced each other in each of England's top three tiers throughout a potted history. Overall, Leeds have the marginally superior record of 14 wins to Brentford's 12, with 14 draws apiece.

Brentford, however, have claimed just one victory from their last 15 trips to Elland Road across all competitions, losing three of their four most recent visits.

Leeds vs Brentford score prediction

“I’m 100 per cent sure they fear us going into this game."

These were the provocative words Brentford manager Thomas Frank delivered ahead of the last meeting between these sides in February 2020. That 1-1 draw jolted Leeds out of a dreary run of form, sparking five consecutive victories (and clean sheets) for the Yorkshire outfit in the build up to their automatic promotion.

It's highly unlikely that Marcelo Bielsa will offer any similarly stirring words for Frank's out of form side to latch upon. With just one win from their last seven Premier League outings, Brentford could do with any encouragement they can get ahead of a clash against a Leeds team that are still some way short of their best.

Prediction: Leeds 1-1 Brentford
