Leicester City 1-1 Brighton: Player ratings as Foxes concede late again

Brighton deservedly nabbed a late equalise away at Leicester City thanks to substitute Danny Welbeck.

The former Man Utd forward made it 1-1 in the 81st minute after Leicester had taken the lead through Patson Daka just after the half-time interval.

As expected, each side came flying out of the traps at the King Power Stadium, with both teams pressing forward in search of the opening goal. The first chance of would fall to the in-form James Maddison who, after some great play from James Justin on the right, saw a shot from inside the penalty area palmed clear by Robert Sanchez in the Brighton goal.

The Seagulls also spurned a decent chance inside the opening 20 minutes. The opportunity would fall to Maupay, who mis-cued an audacious volleyed effort from the right of the penalty area following some wonderful play out wide from Leandro Trossard.

It was all Leicester thereafter in the first half, as Youri Tielemans and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall comfortably controlled the midfield and penned the visitors back in their own defensive third. And they could've/should've taken the lead on the 35th minute mark, but Ademola Lookman - after being played through on goal by Maddison - rifled straight at Sanchez. He really, really, really should have done better.

Almost straight from kick off in the second half, the Foxes finally got their breakthrough. The goal came from Patson Daka, who latched onto a loose ball inside the six-yard box to squeeze home his second goal of the week.

Brighton woke up after conceding, and almost scored the equaliser on two separate occasions. An effort from Alexis Mac Allister from just inside the area ballooned over the crossbar, and a Jakub Moder volley did, well, the same.

The visitors really started to turn up the heat when Tariq Lamptey came off the bench. The young wing-back added some much needed width to the Brighton attack, and this almost paid dividends in the 72nd minute. Lamptey's brilliant ball into the box was met by fellow substitute Welbeck, but was well saved by Kasper Schmeichel.

Welbeck wasn't to be denied a second time however, as in the 81st minute the former Arsenal and Man Utd man brilliantly rose at the back post to head home the equaliser.

The final 10 minutes were dominated by Brighton, and they were denied a certain winner by Youri Tielemans on the goal-line - the midfielder brilliantly headed a Dan Burn effort clear of danger - and Schmeichel - who made a remarkable save to keep a Trossard shot at bay.

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Kasper Schmeichel (GK) - 6/10 - Had literally nothing to do until the final 20 minutes, when he was forced into a brilliant saves by Welbeck and Trossard.

James Justin (RB) - 6/10 - Looks a player. Got forward well in the second half and performed admirably in a back three at the end of the game too.

Caglar Soyuncu (CB) - 4/10 - As always, struggled with balls in behind.

Daniel Amartey (CB) - 5/10 - Dealt with Maupay quite well up until the final 10 minutes or so.

Luke Thomas (LB) - 3/10 - Really poor when Lamptey came on. Just could not deal with him.

2. Midfielders

Youri Tielemans (CM) - 8/10 - Brilliant midfield performance. By far the best player on the pitch for the Foxes.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (CM) - 6/10 - Supported the attack and defence pretty damn well. Decent outing.

James Maddison (CM) - 4/10 - Had his moments, and should've scored inside the opening five minutes. Faded in the second half.

3. Forwards

Ademola Lookman (RW) - 4/10 - Missed a great chance in the first half, and generally just seems to lack a bit of quality when it's most needed in the final third.

Patson Daka (ST) - 7/10 - Scored the opener and caused mayhem with his runs in behind.

Harvey Barnes (LW) - 5/10 - Worked hard but he was rather ineffective.

4. Substitutes

Marc Albrighton - 2/10 - Fell asleep at the back post for Welbeck's goal.

Boubakary Soumare - N/A.

Robert Sanchez (GK) - 5/10 - Great distribution as always.

Joel Veltman (RB) - 3/10 - Caught napping for the opener.

Adam Webster (CB) - 6/10 - Did well against the pace of Leicester's attack.

Dan Burn (CB) - 7/10 - His great form continued on Sunday. Leaped in front of basically every shot on goal in the first half.

Marc Cucurella (LB) - 6/10 - Had his work cut out for him today, but performed admirably.

6. Midfielders

Steven Alzate (DM) - N/A - Really struggled to do anything. At all. He was subbed off on the hour mark because of this.

Pascal Gross (CM) - 3/10 - A bit of a non-entity because, honestly, Tielemans was simply better than him.

Alexis Mac Allister (CM) - 5/10 - Clearly talented, but played a bit too deep in the first half. Impressed more in the second half when he was given more of the ball.

Jakub Moder (AM) - 6/10 - He did literally nothing in the first half, and then really came alive in the second. Some lovely touches in and around the penalty area.

7. Forwards

Leandro Trossard (ST) - 6/10 - Very explicitly Brighton's most dangerous attacker.

Neal Maupay (ST) - 6/10 - Popped up with a fantastic assist for Brighton's equaliser.

8. Substitutes

Tariq Lamptey - 8/10 - Changed the game when he came off the bench.

Danny Welbeck - 7/10 - A brilliant header to level the game.
