Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed Dominik Szoboszlai sustained a hamstring injury during Monday night's 4-2 win at home to Newcastle United.

Szoboszlai was replaced by fellow summer signing Ryan Gravenberch after 64 minutes of the contest at Anfield with the scores level at 1-1.

The Hungarian was spotted lightly limping off but the substitution did not suggest an injury as Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz were both hauled off at the same time.

But speaking to the press post-match, Klopp admitted Szoboszlai had indeed picked up a problem shortly prior to his withdrawal.

"We wanted to take him off, that was the plan, but unfortunately it was somehow a minute late because in the last situation he felt the hamstring," Klopp said. "Now we don't know the extent of it, obviously, so we have to wait."

Szoboszlai will undergo a scan in the coming days to determine the severity of the injury and how many games he may have to sit out, but he is almost certain to miss Liverpool's trip to Arsenal in round three of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Liverpool then host Fulham in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on January 10 before returning to Premier League action on January 21 with a trip to Bournemouth.

The Reds round off January with with the second leg of that Carabao Cup semi-final and then welcome Chelsea to Anfield.

Monday's victory against Newcastle saw Liverpool open up a three-point gap at the top of the Premier League table. A brace from Mohamed Salah plus strikes from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo saw Klopp's men to victory, recording a staggering sum of 7.2 expected goals.

While Szoboszlai picked up a fresh injury, Liverpool were able to welcome Alexis Mac Allister back to the fold following a knee problem, taking to the pitch for the final 15 minutes.
