Liverpool and Man Utd use international window to scout defensive prospects
- United and Liverpool watched Portugal win over Slovakia
- Both clubs were also present at Italy's victory against Ukraine
- Teenagers Silva and Scalvini are both key players for their clubs
Liverpool and Manchester United both used the international window to watch defensive starlets Antonio Silva and Giorgio Scalvini, 90min understands.
19-year-old Silva has established himself as one of the world's leading young central defenders over the past 18 months and is already on the radar of most of the continent's top clubs.
Silva has come through the youth ranks at Benfica and is already regarded as a cornerstone of his side despite his tender years. He is also becoming an increasingly important player for the Portugal national team, with four senior international caps to his name following a single appearance for the Under-21s.
Both Liverpool and United are well versed on the player after previously undertaking scouting missions, and the heavyweight Premier League duo again took the chance during the international break to watch Silva in action - preferring to see him play out of his comfort zone given he usually plays in a dominant Benfica side.
Silva played the full 90 minutes as Portugal emerged victorious in a tricky Euro 2024 qualifying clash in Slovakia - a game they won 1-0 thanks to Bruno Fernandes' first half goal. As well as United and Liverpool, 90min understands that scouts representing Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were also in attendance at the Tehelne pole Stadium.

Liverpool and United were also in attendance at San Siro days later to take in Italy's Euro 2024 qualifying clash with Ukraine, with Atalanta's Giorgio Scalvini one of a number of players being monitored.
Scalvini, who stands 6'4" tall, has been watched by United on numerous occasions thanks to their pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund, with Liverpool also keeping abreast of his situation as they put plans in place for strengthening in central defence.
Capped six times by Italy, Scalvini is already an integral part of Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta side, and made his Serie A debut as a 17-year-old when La Dea drew 1-1 with Udinese.
