Liverpool release 2023/24 home kit inspired by classic 70s strip
Liverpool have released their 2023/24 home kit, which is inspired by the last strip worn under the management of legendary boss Bill Shankly.
Shankly departed Anfield after 15 years in charge at the end of the 1973/74 season, having led the club to three First Division titles and seven other major honours - the 1972/73 UEFA Cup included.
Manufactured by Nike and sponsored by Standard Chartered, Liverpool's new kit is classic in design, with the club's usual vibrant red contrasted by a white collar and cuffs. The reverse of the shirt proudly features the number 97 emblem on the nape of the neck, in memory of the men, women and children who unlawfully lost their lives in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.
Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Jordan Henderson, Missy Bo Kearns and Taylor Hinds are among the men's and women's players who feature in a retro themed promotional video, which aims to transport the players back to the 1970s and the magical era of Shankly.
"The new home shirt is a classic. Given the inspiration behind the design it feels iconic and a nod to the history of this great club. We’re looking forward to wearing it at Anfield for the Villa game." Henderson said.
"We’re always proud to wear the LFC jersey," women's vice-captain Hinds remarked. "It’s always exciting to see the new design and when it has a link to the history of this club it makes it even more special. We’re excited to wear next season."
The strip is available for pre-order on Liverpool's official website, in the club's official stores and on the club app, with release day slated for May 18 - before the end of the current Premier League season.
Liverpool will wear the shirt for the first time in their final home game of the season, an exciting clash against Europa League-chasing Aston Villa on May 20.
