Liverpool head into Sunday's Premier League clash with West Ham United high on confidence after coming from behind to beat LASK 3-1 in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Goals from Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah dug Jurgen Klopp's Reds out of trouble after they went into the half-time interval trailing to Florian Flecker's 14th minute goal.
The victory was Klopp's 50th win in European competition with Liverpool - a new club record - and extended the club's unbeaten start to the season which has seen 13 points collected from a possible 15 in the Premier League.
Bournemouth, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Wolves are the four sides to have been put to the sword by Liverpool domestically, and the club sit third in the table behind Manchester City, who have a perfect 100% winning record to their name, and Tottenham Hotspur, who are only above the Reds on goals scored.
The news gets better for Liverpool heading into the weekend, with West Ham the visitors to Anfield on Sunday. That may sound like a strange thing to say given the Hammers were also victorious in the Europa League on Thursday and are sixth in the Premier League table, but the east Londoners have a truly shocking record on Merseyside.
Indeed, their 3-0 win over Liverpool in August 2015 was their first win at Anfield in 52 years, and remains the last time they picked up three points in the north west. There have been eight fixtures played at Liverpool since, with the first two resulting in draws and the latter six resulting in three points for Klopp and co.
Jurgen Klopp & David Moyes' records against Liverpool and West Ham
Manager | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost |
---|---|---|---|---|
Klopp vs West Ham | 17 | 11 | 3 | 3 |
Moyes vs Liverpool | 39 | 6 | 9 | 24 |
Liverpool's recent hold over West Ham is reflected by their record of 11 wins from the two's last 13 meetings, including wins both home and away in three of the last four Premier League seasons.
David Moyes' own personal record against the Reds makes for pretty grim reading too, offering more positive news for Liverpool ahead of the game. In 39 career meetings, Moyes has come out victorious on just six occasions - four times when he was in charge of Everton, once during his ill-fated tenure at Manchester United, and once as West Ham boss - the 3-2 win over Liverpool at London Stadium in November 2021.
As for Klopp, his overall record against West Ham stands at 11 wins from 17 games, with that recent fantastic winning record coming after two draws and two defeats in his first four meetings with the 2023 Europa Conference League winners.
