Lucas Zelarayan to miss 1-2 weeks with knee injury
Columbus Crew calmed fans' fears by confirming that star midfielder Lucas Zelarayan is only expected to miss one to two weeks with a knee injury.
The player sparked concerns after limping off the pitch in the match against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, visibly upset and in considerable pain.
Though he will not miss much Major League Soccer action, Zelarayan will no longer represent Armenia in a pair of friendlies during the March international window, and instead rehab the injury.
A prolonged absence would be a huge blow for the Crew as the midfielder currently leads the league in combined goals and assists with four and two. He has become an integral part of the team’s offense since joining in 2020, recording 22 goals and 13 assists across 52 appearances.
The Columbus Crew returns to action on April 2 following the international window, hosting Nashville SC at Lower.com Field.
