Lucy Bronze admits she would have traded all her club honours for Euro 2022 success

Lucy Bronze has admitted she would have swapped all her honours at club level for Euro 2022 victory with England after the Lionesses secured their maiden piece of silverware with a 2-1 victory over Germany at Wembley.

An extra time winner from Chloe Kelly saw England to victory on Sunday evening, after Lina Magull's goal had cancelled out Ella Toone's sumptuous goal in the second half.

Bronze has won league titles in England and France, in addition to a three Champions Leagues and the Best FIFA Women's Player award in 2020, but a trophy on the international stage had been the one honour that had eluded her.

"Everybody who knows me knows I’m very process driven, I like to get things done," the right back said. "Winning trophies like Champions Leagues, FA Cups has always been amazing but a goal of mine has always been to win something with England and I would have traded all those trophies previously for a night like tonight.

"So proud that we’ve finally got our hands on a trophy, now we need to get our hands on a World Cup next year."

Prior to Sunday's final, Bronze's international career had been a series of near misses, where she had turned in stunning individual performances at major tournaments but suffered a trio of semi final defeats.

However, the right back insisted irrespective of whether this was squad members' first or eighth major tournament, everyone shared the same consensus that this was England's moment.

"I think it give us a sense of calmness going into this game that we’ve done so much in the past," Bronze said of England's three previous semi final heartbreaks. "I know a lot of players this was their first tournament, there was a lot of nerves.

"But for all the players this was: this is our time, we’ve got to get this done, get the job done. I think kind of ironic in a way that Jill [Scott] was the player that came on and helped us see the game out. Our longest serving player who was there 13 years ago getting beaten by Germany and now lifts the trophy.

"It’s been a long road for myself and Jill and other players involved in England, it’s just nice to finally lift the trophy."
