Luka Modric has reflected on his remarkable career at Real Madrid after making his 500th appearance for the club.
The midfielder recently became just the 15th player in Madrid's storied history to play 500 games for Los Blancos, marking the occasion with an impressive showing in a famous 2-1 win in El Clasico against arch rivals Barcelona.
Modric has enjoyed a fantastic 12-year stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning basically everything there is to win in football while on the books at the club. The now 38-year-old was instrumental for Madrid as they utterly dominated European football in the 2010s, winning five Champions Leagues with the club - starting and starring in all five finals.
Thanks to his incredible performances Modric became the eighth Real Madrid player to win the Ballon d'Or in 2018.
Speaking in an interview with AS, Modric reflected on his wonderful career, thanking the club's fans for their support down the years.
"Reaching this figure is impressive and I want to thank Real Madrid fans for their support during all these matches," he said. "I'm going to continue giving everything for Madrid.
"Real Madrid is everything to me.It is part of my life, my family and it is a way of living. I'm from Croatia and I was born there, but I've been here for 11 years and I feel at home. I am grateful for everything I am experiencing at the best club in the history of football.
"500 games is a number that not many players have managed to reach at Real Madrid. Being one of them fills me with pride. In addition to all the awards and titles, the recognition of the fans who have always been with me has been the most important thing."
Modric currently has just eight months left on his contract at Madrid, and has been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League and MLS in recent times.
