Lyon 0-3 Bayern Munich: Player Ratings as Serge Gnabry Double Sees Die Roten Into Champions League Final

Bayern Munich overcame a run of four straight Champions League semi-final defeats to secure a 3-0 victory over Lyon and book their place in the final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Missed chances from the French side will be giving all of Lyon nightmares for weeks to come. Opportunities went begging, and Bayern capitalised. Serge Gnabry netted the opener against the run of play with a goal of the season contender, before the forward poked home a second shortly after.

Lyon kept pressing for a route back into the tie, but Robert Lewandowski grabbed a late third to secure Bayern Munich's spot in the Champions League final. Paris Saint-Germain await them.

LYON

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Anthony Lopes (GK) - 6/10 - Made saves, plenty of them. Was powerless against the three goals.

Jason Denayer (CB) - 7/10 - Headed a good number of crosses away, but there is only so much you can do against Europe's most lethal forward line.

Marcelo (CB) - 6/10 - First half yellow card meant he was up against it earlier than he would have liked. Couldn't contend with Lewandowski's movement.

Marcal (CB) - 5/10 - Can anyone tasked with marking Gnabry score higher than a five? Was drawn off because of his caution. A tough night for Marcal.

2. Wing-Backs & Midfielders

Leo Dubois (RWB) - 7/10 - Got in behind Davies plenty of times, but the chances weren't taken. Not his fault, he ran himself into the ground.

Maxence Caqueret (CM) - 9/10 - Maybe everyone should stop waxing lyrical about Aouar and take a look at Caqueret? Some truly mesmerising touches in midfield, superb ball carries and intricate passing. What a performance.

Bruno Guimarães (CM) - 6/10 - Was left chasing shadows in midfield when Bayern took control of the game. Had a strong opening but was powerless to the waves of attacks down the flanks.

Houssem Aouar (CM) - 8/10 - Utterly superb in the second half, Aouar took over the mantle from Thiago to control the midfield and find his forward runners. Made a few superb key passes. Couldn't have done much more.

Maxwel Cornet (LWB) - 7/10 - Got in behind Kimmich on a few occasions, but his final ball lacked quality at times, and he tired considerably towards the end, leaving spaces of his own to exploit.

3. Forwards

Memphis Depay (ST) - 6/10 - How many times, probably forever, will Depay rue that early miss? Having done everything right, exploiting the right spaces and charging at goal, he fluffed his lines.

Karl Toko Ekambi (ST) - 6/10 - Caused numerous problems to Davies down the right hand side, but missed two glorious opportunities with the goal at his mercy. You can't afford that against Bayern.

4. Substitutes

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 8/10 - Just like the sign of a good team is being able to win when you're not playing well, the sign of a good goalkeeper is one who makes crucial saves when he isn't constantly being called into action. Neuer is one such keeper.

Joshua Kimmich (RB) - 8/10 - As industrious as ever, that didn't prevent Kimmich from being caught out of position by quick Lyon movement on occasion, although he was the best of the backline. Again.

Jerome Boateng (CB) - 6/10 - Pace. Something Boateng, sadly, doesn't have much of these days. Put a few more yards of pace in him and he'd fit into any backline. However, it's hard to overlook that deficiency.

David Alaba (CB) - 7/10 - Playing such a high line is always dangerous. With Alaba in the heart of defence there is pace to counter that, but even someone as talented as the Austrian struggled with the pace the French side posed.

Alphonso Davies (LB) - 5/10 - For the first time on Wednesday, big questions marks were raised about Davies' capabilities when actually being called upon to defend. Caught out so many times down the left hand side.

6. Midfielders

Thiago Alcântara (CM) - 8/10 - After a couple of shaky moments early on, he settled like fresh snow on a meadow, so calm in possession and dictating the play from his deep role. Why would Bayern ever consider selling him?

Leon Goretzka (CM) - 8/10 - Just like his midfield partner, Goretzka gradually began imposing himself, acting as the muscle to Thiago's magic and making the centre of the park his own.

Thomas Muller (AM) - 7/10 - It Muller was a song by The Killers, it'd be Spaceman. Practically unmarkable. When he wasn't drifting in between the lines he was coming short to receive possession. His impact on the game faded as the second half wore on.

7. Forwards

Serge Gnabry (RW) - 9/10 - Is there a more clinical finisher in Europe at the moment? With Bayern on the ropes, Gnabry's stunning opener eased any unexpected nerves, tormenting the Lyon backline the way only he knows high.

Robert Lewandowski (ST) - 7/10 - Why is Lewandowski missing chances? He's not supposed to do that. Still, he's the focal point in attack, the player defenders need to double up on, and bloody good at the lot.

Ivan Perisic (LW) - 6/10 - Superb in the previous round, Perisic's influence on proceedings was lessened due to the magnificence of Gnabry, with the vast majority of the play coming down the right hand side, or by the overlapping Davies on the left.
