Man City's 5 best players in February - ranked
- Treble winners City played seven times in hectic month of fixtures
- Pep Guardiola's side unbeaten after winning six and drawing one
- Three-way Premier League title fight also includes Liverpool and Arsenal
Manchester City's February schedule was chock-a-block to put it mildly, but the treble winners put tired legs to one side to emerge with six wins and a draw from seven outings.
Pep Guardiola's side scooped 13 points from a possible 15 in the Premier League to keep pace with title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal, while they also took a commanding first leg lead in their Champions League round of 16 clash with FC Copenhagen, in addition to dismantling Luton Town in the FA Cup.
The latter performance was remarkable, with City putting six past the hapless Hatters, but they didn't have everything their own way in a month that saw plenty of tightly-contested games.
There were some standout performers though, with the absolute best of the bunch below based on 90min's player ratings metrics.
5. John Stones
Appearances: 5
Average rating: 6.6 (4,7,7,7,8)
Player of the Match: 0
City's defence was breached just five times in the seven games that they played, with their solidity coinciding with John Stones' return to fitness.
The 29-year-old has looked brilliant at times, fleeting between defensive duties one minute and being an attacking midfielder the next, and is one of Guardiola's most trusted players.
Stones' best showing came in the rampant 6-2 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup fifth round, where he polled an 8/10 rating.
4. Rodri
Appearances: 6
Average rating: 6.67 (7,6,7,6,7,7)
Player of the Match: 0
If you're looking for a metronomic Glenn McGrath-like figure in the world of football, look no further than the incredibly consistent Rodri.
The Spaniard glides around the field for City and frankly makes everything look ridiculously easy. He also has this knack of popping up with really big goals when his side needs him - this month he pegged Chelsea back to earn a point in a game City were well below their best in.
3. Erling Haaland
Appearances: 7
Average rating: 7.14 (7,9,6,4,8,6,10)
Player of the Match: 2
The record for most goals in a Premier League game currently stands at five (Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Jermain Defoe, Dimitar Berbatov and Sergio Aguero, we salute you) but that's almost certain to be broken by the Norwegian cyborg Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian hinted he's more than up for the challenge by walloping five past Luton in the FA Cup, while he also put in a superb performance to help City overcome a stoic Everton early in February.
Consistency is what Haaland is current lacking - by his own ridiculous standards anyway - and that's guaranteed to strike fear into every side City are due to come up against.
2. Phil Foden
Appearances: 6
Average rating: 7.5 (10,5,9,5,8,8)
Player of the Match: 3
Phil Foden was recently tipped by Brentford boss Thomas Frank to become a future Ballon d'Or winner, which is no surprise given he's enjoying the best season of his young career.
The 23-year-old has registered 26 goal contributions this season (16 goals and ten assists) and he hit a rich vein of form in February to put Brentford, Copenhagen and Bournemouth to the sword.
He turned in a 10/10 performance away at the Bees - bagging a first career hat-trick in the process - and also registered 8/10 or more on a further three occasions. But despite averaging 7.5 overall, Foden has been pipped to the top prize by...
1. Kevin De Bruyne
Appearances: 6
Average rating: 7.66 (8,7,9,6,6,10)
Player of the Match: 1
...the mercurial Kevin De Bruyne, who is back to his brilliant best despite spending most of the season on the sidelines recovering from a serious hamstring tear.
The Belgian was an assist machine in February, setting up eight goals in six appearances across the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
Brentford and Everton felt his assist wrath first, before Copenhagen were treated (or tortured, depending on how you look at it) to a goal and two assists in a routine 3-1 away win.
The best was still to come though, as De Bruyne laid four on a plate for Haaland in the FA Cup mauling of Luton - a 10/10 showing that reinforced his status as one of the very best midfielders in the world.
