Manchester City host Chelsea in the Carabao Cup hoping to extend their fine record in the competition.

It is City's penultimate game before the World Cup break, but a Premier League game at Brentford this weekend will likely mean plenty of rotation in this one.

Here is the side Pep Guardiola could go with the visit of Chelsea.

Rico Lewis

GK: Stefan Ortega - Needs to play occasionally at some point so might as well be now.

RB: Rico Lewis - Probably would have played anyway, but Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo being out makes it a no-brainer.

CB: Ruben Dias - The calibre of opposition will demand some strength at the back.

CB: Aymeric Laporte - Not really played enough this season so needs some time on the pitch.

LB: Sergio Gomez - Been an unused substitute a lot of late but should get a chance to show what he can do in this one.

DM: Rodri - Pep may resist the urge to rest him to ensure some midfield solidity.

CM: Cole Palmer - Ideal occasion to give the very talented youngster some minutes against serious opposition.

CM: Phil Foden - Not had many minutes recently and will likely want some ahead of the World Cup.

RF: Riyad Mahrez - Easy choice to bring him in for this one. Maybe put someone else on penalty duty, though.

CF: Julian Alvarez - No real point in risking Erling Haaland here, so another opportunity for the Argentine.

LF: Jack Grealish - Well he's not going to play himself into form sitting on the bench, is he?
