Manchester City are in the midst of a poor run of domestic form that has seen them drop as low as fourth in the Premier League, but they take on newly promoted strugglers Luton Town on Sunday evening at Kenilworth Road.

With two key players in Rodri and Jack Grealish returning to the team from suspension, City will be stronger on paper than they were for the 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa during the midweek fixtures.

Pep Guardiola will know that he cannot let this team go five league games without a victory, especially with Arsenal and Liverpool continuing to win.

Here is the team that the City boss could choose when they take on Luton.

GK: Ederson - He has not been doing anything explicitly wrong in recent weeks but he will be fuming that results have taken a turn. This is a game that he will be expecting to secure a clean sheet in.

CB: Kyle Walker - Continuing to defy the effects of ageing, Kyle Walker will start on the right of this back three and be just as important in attack as he is in defence.

CB: Ruben Dias - One of the safest picks in this City team that does get rotated a lot, Ruben Dias will be in control of the defence in the centre.

CB: Nathan Ake - There are a few options here but Nathan Ake is likely to take Josko Gvardiol's place on the left of the back three. Manuel Akanji is another option but Ake is the likely choice.

CDM: John Stones - He seems to play in this role more than any other now when fit. John Stones is a midfielder, folks, and that is where he is expected to play at Kenilworth Road.

CDM: Rodri - The aforementioned Akanji had this role against Aston Villa but with Rodri back, City are far more likely to win than lose with him in the team.

RM: Bernardo Silva - People are rightly beginning to wonder of Bernardo Silva is actually a very underrated player. He plays such a fluid and creative role that he may not even do a lot on the right wing.

CM: Julian Alvarez - Another player that has been turned into a midfielder by Guardiola, Julian Alvarez will be happy to be playing so frequently given his original task was to be Erling Haaland's backup.

CM: Phil Foden - He was out on the left against Aston Villa but with other players becoming available, Phil Foden should come back into the centre of the midfield. Again, it will be a very fluid role.

LM: Jack Grealish - The Englishman is back from the suspension that he served against his former club and with doubts about Jeremy Doku's fitness, he is a shoo-in to start here.

ST: Erling Haaland - It has been an odd few weeks for Haaland with Norway's failure to reach Euro 2024 and a relative lack of goals for City, but that next hat-trick is never far away.
