A young Manchester United side were put to the sword by Wrexham during their respective pre-season tours of the US on Tuesday night.

Erik ten Hag selected an inexperienced XI ahead of Wednesday's showpiece exhibition against Real Madrid in Houston.

They played out a fiery affair with the Red Dragons, who lost star striker Paul Mullin to a punctured lung during the opening stages of the game.

Wrexham took the lead just before the half-hour mark through Elliot Lee, who was able to guide the ball past Nathan Bishop after being left unmarked in the box.

Soon after, the Welsh side doubled their lead after a long throw-in caused chaos in the Man Utd box, allowing Aaron Hayden to head home.

Man Utd found an equaliser deep into first-half stoppage time when Alvaro Fernandez's deep cross was turned in at the back post by Marc Jurado.

But on the other side of the break, the Red Devils were reduced to ten men. Dan Gore went in high on Andy Cannon and was given his marching orders.

Wrexham put the game to bed on 69 minutes when they overwhelmed the short-handed Man Utd defence, allowing Sam Dalby to wrap up the scoring.

Speaking post-match, Ten Hag said: "It's always disappointing and we're disappointed with ourselves. The way we played in the first half was a little bit erratic to the structure. We had some other objectives that it was not the result, but with young players we have to learn from it and I'm sure they will do."
