Man Utd announce freeze on season ticket prices for 2021/22 season
Manchester United have announced a freeze on season ticket prices for both the men’s and women’s teams in 2021/22, when it is hoped that fans will be able to return to games without restriction.
Fans have been unable to attend games at Old Trafford or Leigh Sports Village for more than a year since the coronavirus pandemic first took hold of the UK in March 2020, with local restrictions applied to Manchester even preventing a loosening of the rules during the autumn.
The ‘roadmap’ out of a third national lockdown laid out by the UK government last month will potentially allow limited numbers of fans at the final round of Premier League games this season on 23 May, although United’s game that day is away from Old Trafford.
It will also be too late for the WSL season, which finishes in early May. But 21 June is earmarked as the earliest date from which all remaining restrictions on social contact can be lifted, which means the start of next season could see a return to normal at all levels.
Despite the club massively losing out on matchday revenue over the past year, season ticket holders will not see an increase to the price of their annual admission.
“Season Ticket prices have been frozen for the 2021/22 season, as part of our ongoing commitment to fair pricing that has been a fundamental part of our ticketing policy for some time,” group managing director Richard Arnold confirmed, via ManUtd.com.
“This marks the tenth successive season that the club has kept prices frozen in general admission areas of [Old Trafford],” he added.
Should the government timeline to lift restrictions be delayed or change and games next season still have to be played with limited capacity or completely behind closed doors, the club will ensure that fans are only paying for games they can attend and will offer a pro-rata rebate or refund.
Any women’s team season ticket holders still owed a refund relating to the abandonment of the 2019/20 WSL season will be able to claim it as a discount off the price of their renewal.
How much does a Man Utd season ticket cost?
A United men’s team adult season ticket at Old Trafford costs between £532 and £950, depending on which section of the stadium it is in, which ranges from £28 per game to £50 per game.
A United women’s team adult season ticket at Leigh Sports Village is priced at £39, which allows entry into 11 WSL home games, the equivalent of just £3.55 per game.
