Man Utd's next priority has to be sorting Paul Pogba's contract situation

Manchester United turned in a stellar second half performance as a Paul Pogba monsterclass helped dig them out of a hole and come from behind to beat AS Roma 6-2 in the Europa League.

The Red Devils took the lead through a fantastic Bruno Fernandes dink, after Pogba beat three players and found Edinson Cavani who slipped a pass through to the Portuguese maestro. Roma fought back with goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Edin Dzeko and led going into half-time.

United came out firing in the second half as Cavani equalised early on, before getting a second just after the hour mark. Fernandes scored a penalty to make it 4-2 before Pogba got himself on the scoresheet with a header. Mason Greenwood smashed home a sixth late on in a dominant performance.

While he statistically ended the game with just a goal to his name, anyone watching could see just how influential Pogba was to the team. Playing off the left hand side, he was able to drift in-field and almost had a free role with Roma not knowing how to deal with his threat.

He was brilliant at switching the play with his accurate long passing, while his ability in tight spaces helped United to play out of a press and even earn fouls. He showed tremendous strength to power through the lines in transition and has that quality in the final third that all top players possess.

If you looked solely at the stats of the game, you would think Pogba had a pretty standard game. He had a 76% pass completion rate and was dispossessed three times, more than any other player on the pitch. He also completed the most dribbles of anyone else on the pitch and only Aaron Wan-Bissaka made more tackles for the Red Devils.

But watching the game, Pogba passed the eye test with flying colours. Everything United did went through him, Fernandes and Cavani and it's no surprise that he was heavily praised after the game.

With all the talk around the future of Cavani, Pogba's has seemingly gone under the radar in recent weeks. The 28-year-old will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer with his situation up in the air.

Some reports suggest he wants to leave, with Real Madrid and Juventus keen to bring him in. Others suggest he is willing to re-sign with the club, but nobody seems sure of what is going to happen this summer.

But Manchester United should make it an absolute priority to get him to sign a new long-term contract to stay at Old Trafford. His skillset is irreplaceable and with the team already having so many other issues that need to be attended to, if he left replacing him would jump to the top of the list.

It's definitely fair to say that Pogba's time at the club has been mixed and inconsistent, but it's not up for debate that his best form for the club and some of the best of his career has come under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tutelage.

He's so important to the way the team want to play, he brings the best out of everyone around him and is irreplaceable in the current transfer market.

If the club want to continue the upward trajectory that they're currently on, it should start with getting Pogba to sign a piece of paper that means he won't be leaving any time soon.
