Man Utd predicted lineup vs Newport County - FA Cup
- Man Utd head to League Two Newport after 14 days without a game
- Potential first start for Altay Bayindir
- Erik ten Hag to name strong lineup to avoid shock FA Cup upset
By Euan Burns
Manchester United will know that the FA Cup is their best chance of winning a trophy this season and they have been handed a favourable tie, taking on League Two's Newport County in round four.
The fact that the game is at Rodney Parade makes it a trickier affair for Erik ten Hag, but he will be determined to go one better than he did last season and win the FA Cup. His team should have benefitted from a 14-day rest and some important players are coming back from injury.
Despite the fact that it is normal to rotate the team for a game like up, Ten Hag is expected to name a strong side given the last thing he needs is to get knocked out by a League Two side.
Here is the starting lineup that Ten Hag may choose when United face Newport in the FA Cup.
Man Utd predicted lineup vs Newport (4-2-3-1)
GK: Altay Bayindir - There is the option of Tom Heaton for Ten Hag here, but in Andre Onana's absence, Bayindir is expected to get his first Man Utd minutes.
RB: Diogo Dalot - The vibe around United may be poor at the moment, but Dalot has been having a good season and he will be an important part of the attacking shape against Newport.
CB: Raphael Varane - Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire should be options here but as mentioned, Ten Hag really cannot lose this game.
CB: Lisandro Martinez - He made his return off of the bench against Tottenham and looked very assured. This could be an ideal chance to give him almost a full game before getting back into some Premier League action.
LB: Luke Shaw - He was set to return against Tottenham but had to pull out late on. Should start here, especially given Tyrell Malacia is still out.

CM: Christian Eriksen - Against a team like Newport who will sit deep, a player with the passing ability of Eriksen could be very important for United.
CM: Kobbie Mainoo - The 18-year-old seems undroppable at the moment. He knits things together so well for United and he should start again here.
RW: Alejandro Garnacho - Antony is an option here for Ten Hag but Garnacho is playing really well and he could try and get the game won early before taking some of the better players off.
AM: Bruno Fernandes - Each season when a game like this comes around, fans wonder if Fernandes will be rested. He never is, and he never looks like he wants a rest.
LW: Marcus Rashford - He scored last time out against Tottenham and he needs to build on that quickly, so there is little to gain from benching him.
ST: Rasmus Hojlund - The Dane really should have scored against Wigan in the previous FA Cup match so he will have to be more clinical against Newport. He will also need to be alive in a congested box.
