Man Utd vs Newcastle: Will there be a bus parade for Carabao Cup winners?

When Manchester United and Newcastle United meet in Sunday's Carabao Cup final, one interminable wait for a trophy will be ended.

United's drought may have only lasted seven years - Newcastle haven't won a major pot since 1969 - but it is the club's longest wait for silverware in four decades. Celebrations will ensue for the victorious side as soon as the final whistle is blown but when a trophy is won, everyone wants a slice.

Open-top bus parades have long been used to mark the capture of a famous cup. However, they aren't always the best idea - just ask Sergio Ramos, who dropped the Copa del Rey under the front wheel of Real Madrid's chariot in 2011.

Will Man Utd have a bus parade after the Carabao Cup final?

No. According to the Daily Mail, Erik ten Hag was not interested in poodling through the streets of Manchester with England's secondary cup hoisted aloft.

After defeating Barcelona in the second leg of their Europa League tie at Old Trafford in midweek, United could still win as many as four competitions this season. Ten Hag has reportedly ruled out a bus parade unless United claim at least one more trophy alongside the Carabao Cup.

Jose Mourinho steered United to three titles in the 2016/17 season - claiming the Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League, the club's last piece of silverware - but was not afforded a bus-supported celebration as the victorious players jetted off on their summer holidays immediately after the European final.

There was no parade to honour the 2016 FA Cup, which is fortunate given the manager that orchestrated the victory, Louis van Gaal, was sacked before a bus could have pulled out of Wembley car park.

Manchester United's last victorious trophy parade was all the way back in 2013, to mark Sir Alex Ferguson's final Premier League title before retirement.

Will Newcastle have a bus parade after the Carabao Cup final?

Eddie Howe does not appear to share the same qualms as Ten Hag when it comes to public celebrations. If they are victorious on Sunday, Newcastle will mark their first domestic trophy since the 1955 FA Cup with a parade through the city according to the Daily Mail.

However, the club have reportedly decided against hosting a bus tour if they lose Sunday's showpiece. Newcastle's last open-top bus parade honoured a defeat to Manchester United at Wembley in the 1999 FA Cup final. The Magpies celebrated reaching (and losing) the final of the same competition in 1998 and 1974.

When will Newcastle have a bus parade after the Carabao Cup final?

Should Howe's side prove to be successful, Newcastle's vehicular saunter through Tyneside will take place on Tuesday 28 February, two days after the Wembley heroics and with plenty of time to recover before returning to the pitch.

Newcastle's next competitive fixture after the final isn't until Saturday 4 March. Although, Howe's side travel to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City for a lunchtime kick-off.
