Manchester City's H2H record vs 2023/24 Champions League group stage opponents
- Man City paired with RB Leipzig, Crvena zvezda and Young Boys in Group G
- Current holders have never previously played Crvena zvezda or Young Boys
- Treble winners beat Leipzig 7-0 in round of 16 last season
Manchester City are looking to become only the second team in the Champions League era after Real Madrid to successfully defend their title.
Pep Guardiola's treble-winners finished the job by beating Inter 1-0 at Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul in 2022 and have learned the group-stage opponents they will need to dispatch to reach the knockout stages this time around.
Jokes about the Cityzens' easy Champions League draws in recent years aren't funny anymore but that didn't stop Joe Cole from plucking out RB Leipzig, Crvena zvezda and Young Boys as upcoming opponents for City in Group G.
Here are City's head-to-head records against their upcoming group stage opponents.
Manchester City's vs 2023/24 Europa League group stage opponents

RB Leipzig | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 |
RB Leipzig
Man City will take on RB Leipzig for the third successive Champions League season, having enjoyed mixed fortunes in their four meetings with the German upstarts.
The two sides were paired in Group A in 2021/22 - with Paris Saint-Germain also thrown in for good measure - and Guardiola's side were destructive in a 6-3 win at the Etihad. Recent Chelsea arrival Christopher Nkunku netted a hat-trick but that could only halve Leipzig's losing deficit as Nathan Ake, Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish, Joao Cancelo and Gabriel Jesus struck alongside a Nordi Mukiele own goal.
Last season's round of 16 tie was well set after a 1-1 draw in which Josko Gvardiol netted at Red Bull Arena, but the gap in quality was much more pronounced less than a month later as Erling Haaland struck five times in a 7-0 thrashing.
Crvena zvezda
Crvena zvezda - also known as Red Star Belgrade - have not had the pleasure of meeting City in official competition before. But as sides like Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United have found out previously, visiting the Rajko Mitic Stadium is always an intense occasion.
Red Star most recently inflicted a surprise 2-0 defeat on Liverpool in 2018/19, though the Reds would later win the tournament by beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final.
Young Boys
Swiss outfit Young Boys usually encounter English sides in the Europa League but have taken on Manchester United four times in recent Champions League campaigns. A dramatic 95th-minute winner for Jordan Siebatcheu - gifted by a sloppy Jesse Lingard pass - earned Young Boys a famous 2-1 win over the Red Devils in 2021.
They have also played Tottenham, Everton and Liverpool twice each but have only been victorious in one of those games. That was against Spurs in the 2010/11 Champions League qualifiers as Young Boys won the first leg 3-2 before being overwhelmed 4-0 in the return fixture at White Hart Lane.
Manchester City's H2H record vs Serbian teams
Man City have never previously faced a Serbian team, making their two clashes with Crvena zvezda in the 2023/24 Champions League group stage their inaugural meetings.

Basel | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
City are only a smidge more experienced against Swiss teams, too. Basel emerged as Group A runners-up behind Manchester United in 2017/18 but their reward was another trip to the north west of England.
City were 3-0 up before half-time in the first leg at St Jakob-Park thanks to strikes from Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero before Gundogan's second in the 53rd minute all but sealed a place in the quarter-finals for Guardiola's side.
Basel did earn a memorable 2-1 win in the second leg but that didn't stop City reaching the quarter-finals where they were thrashed 5-1 on aggregate by Liverpool.
