The Manchester City lineup that should start against Swansea in the FA Cup
By Max Parsons
Pep Guardiola takes his Manchester City side to south Wales on Wednesday evening to face Swansea City in the FA Cup fifth round.
The Citizens have been formidable of late and go into the tie having won their last 14, while avoiding defeat in their last 21. Most recently, Guardiola's men continued their winning ways and cemented their Premier League title aspirations with a resounding 4-1 win over champions Liverpool.
But Swansea will not be easy opponents. The Welsh outfit are unbeaten in ten, winning eight of those, and recently triumphed over top of the table Norwich to close the gap at the top of the Championship to just two points.
So, in what promises to be an intriguing clash, here's the City lineup that should start.
1. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Zack Steffen (GK) - The USA international is Guardiola's preferred choice in the FA Cup, having featured against Birmingham and Cheltenham in previous rounds.
Kyle Walker (RB) - Jaoa Cancelo is the first choice option at right back currently, but Guardiola is expected to name a slightly rotated side in preparation for the Tottenham clash on Saturday.
Eric Garcia (CB) - The Spaniard hasn't played since the round four match against Cheltenham and could come back into the team here.
Aymeric Laporte (CB) - John Stones and Ruben Dias are comfortably the preferred pairing at the back for Pep, but Laporte could get a chance against the Swans.
Benjamin Mendy (LB) - Similarly, Mendy has fallen out of favour this campaign, but will likely get an opportunity to impress in a rotated side.
2. Midfielders
Fernandinho (DM) - Has been an unused substitute for the past two games, but the Brazilian is expected to start and provide experience and solidity in the deep lying role.
Tommy Doyle (CM) - The youngster last featured for the senior side at Cheltenham last month and impressed in midfield. A decent chance for Guardiola to rotate the squad and give the talented teenager more minutes.
Bernardo Silva (CM) - The Portuguese played well against Liverpool on Sunday, grabbing the assist for Raheem Sterling's goal. A big game player whose experience could be vital.
3. Forwards
Riyad Mahrez (RW) - The Algerian also played at Anfield but after coming from midway through the second half, should be relatively fresh.
Gabriel Jesus (ST) - City are in sumptuous form right now, and all of that good work has largely been done without Jesus. A great chance here to get his eye back in and match fitness up.
Ferran Torres (LW) - The 20-year old has looked promising since his summer move and has bagged eight goals to date - most recently getting the final strike in the 3-1 win at Cheltenham.
