Manchester United 9-0 Southampton: Player ratings as shocking Saints concede nine (again)

Manchester United secured a record-equalling 9-0 win over Southampton on Wednesday night, with the Saints ending a miserable Tuesday night with nine men.
The game got off to an explosive start when 19-year-old Alexandre Jankewitz was sent off for a horrific challenge on Scott McTominay, less than two minutes into his maiden Premier League start.
United did not take long to press home their man advantage with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford both scoring good goals before the half hour mark. A Jan Bednarek own goal and an Edinson Cavani header before half time meant the hosts went into the break 4-0 up.

Che Adams thought he had pulled one back for the visitors, only for his strike to be ruled out for offside (by a finger) just after the break. Substitute Anthony Martial then ended his eight-game goal drought, finishing Bruno Fernandes' cross clinically. Minutes later, Scott McTominay made it 6-0 with a wonderful first time effort.
Southampton's evening got even worse soon after with Bednarek seeing red for a trip in the box. After a lengthy VAR review, Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot, before Martial scored an eighth. Daniel James then added a ninth in stoppage time to cap off a perfect evening for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side and the worst one for the Saints since, well you know...
Southampton just lost 9-0 again and it is literally Groundhog Day.

Here are your player ratings for United and the Saints from Old Trafford.
Manchester United
1. Goalkeeper & Defenders
David de Gea (GK) - 6/10 - Was forced into one save, otherwise was pretty much the only spectator in the ground. The one long ball he attempted found its target so that's nice.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB) - 8/10 - Got a very rare goal after timing his run to the back post perfectly. One of his best attacking displays in a United shirt.
Victor Lindelof (CB) - 7/10 - Some great long passes. One lapse in concentration which allowed Adams to sneak in can be forgiven.
Harry Maguire (CB) - 8/10 - Almost operated as another midfielder at times. Rarely troubled defensively and moved the ball well.
Luke Shaw (LB) - 9/10 - Stole the show against his former club. Created two goals and did not put a foot wrong defensively. There is no better English left-back on current form.
2. Midfielders
Scott McTominay (CM) - 8/10 - Bounced back well after being on the end of a horror tackle in the opening exchanges. Showed great technique for his goal.
Fred (CM) - 8/10 - Went about his business in a quiet but effective manner. Some of his passing was superb.
Bruno Fernandes (AM) - 10/10 - Truly excellent once again. His ball in for Martial's goal was the highlight of an influential performance in which he scored and bagged two assists.
3. Forwards
Marcus Rashford (RW) - 9/10 - Caused the Saints all manner of problems and scored a great goal before being taken off on the hour mark.
Edinson Cavani (ST) - 8/10 - Needs to be starting every game that he is fit. Another accomplished centre-forward display, capped off with a great header.
Mason Greenwood (LW) - 8/10 - Created the second goal with a wicked cross. Will be gutted not to have scored in this goal fest.
4. Substitutes
Donny van de Beek - 7/10 - Was involved in a few of United's incisive passing moves around the edge of the box.
Anthony Martial - 9/10 - Ended his scoreless run with two really well taken goals.
Daniel James - 7/10 - Got in behind a few times and capped the night off with a goal.
5. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Alex McCarthy (GK) - 2/10 - Conceded nine. Nothing else to say really.
Kayne Ramsay (RB) - 3/10 - Looked very shaky in the first half, diving into challengers and struggling against United's ruthless left side. Kept on plugging away after the break, but still struggled.
Jan Bednarek (CB) - 1/10 - Had a nightmare afternoon, clumsily putting one into his own net before being sent off.
Jack Stephens (CB) - 3/10 - Struggled. Missed a basic header for Cavani's goal and looked ropey all evening.
Ryan Bertrand (LB) - 4/10 - Not as troubled as his right-sided counterpart but he still struggled to contain United's overloads out wide.
6. Midfielders
Moussa Djenepo (RM) - 3/10 - Seriously struggled keeping Shaw in check. Offered next to nothing going forward as well.
James Ward-Prowse (CM) - 4/10 - Offered some resistance to the United onslaught making five interceptions and three tackles.
Alexandre Jankewitz (CM) - 1/10 - What on Earth was he thinking? An unforgivably horrific challenge so early into the game.
Stuart Armstrong (LM) - 4/10 - Worked hard and occasionally managed to drive his team forward.
7. Forwards
Danny Ings (ST) - 4/10 - Failed to track Wan-Bissaka for the game's opener. Staved of service after that so could not make amends.
Che Adams (ST) - 4/10 - Had a goal cruelly ruled out for offside just after half time. Worked his socks off.
8. Substitutes
Nathan Redmond - 6/10 - Saints improved going forward after he came on.
Allan Tchaptchet - N/A
