Manchester United vs Leeds United: Classic clashes
The Rose derby is one of the fiercest rivalries in English football.
Whenever Manchester United and Leeds United cross paths it's always spectacular, with passionate fans in the stands doing everything they can to give their club the push it needs to get them over the line.
Looking back through history there have been some fantastic games of football between the two sides, but which are the best? Here's 90min's selection of the best of the best Leeds - Man Utd games throughout the years.
1. Leeds United 5-1 Manchester United - February 1972
During the 60s and 70s the rivalry was arguably at it's most intense as legendary manager Don Revie led Leeds to unprecedented success.
A second half blitz saw Leeds put five past Alex Stepney as over 45,000 fans saw a mauling at Elland Road in this famous win.
2. Manchester United 0-2 Leeds United - November 1974
Leeds won the title in 1974 - the same year Manchester United suffered relegation.
Goals from Mick Jones (again) and Joe Jordan - you know the guy who headbutted Gennaro Gattuso as a coach - saw Old Trafford silenced en route to three points in Revie's final season as manager before he took the England job.
3. Leeds United 0-0 Manchester United - February 1993
Arguably the biggest transfer of Sir Alex Ferguson's reign at Manchester United was when he took Eric Cantona from Elland Road to Old Trafford in 1993.
While the game wasn't a classic on the pitch, the reaction of the fans toward Cantona made for an electric atmosphere. The Frenchman strolled out from the tunnel with his trademark upturned collar to raucous boos as fans made their thoughts on the deal known.
Cantona responded in typical fashion, picking up an FA charge for reportedly spitting at the fans and was fined £1,000 for it.
4. Leeds United 2-1 Man United - September 1994
Following the inception of the Premier League in 1992, Leeds didn't get a win over Manchester United until this game in 1994.
The Reds had won the league and FA Cup double the season before but goals from local lads made the difference on the day as Leeds finally got three points against their rivals.
David Wetherall and Brian Deane were the heroes on the day for Leeds.
5. Manchester United 1-0 Leeds United - April 1996
Lucas Radebe is a Leeds legend for his wonderful performances at the heart of the club's defence.
It's often forgotten though that he played almost a full game in goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford in 1996. The central defender started his career as a goalkeeper in South Africa and when second-choice goalkeeper Mark Beeney got sent off after just 17 minutes, he donned the number one shirt and went between the sticks.
Radebe made some huge saves throughout the game but in the 73rd minute Roy Keane fired a low strike past him to earn three points for the Reds.
6. Manchester United 3-2 Leeds United - November 1998
Although Manchester United dominated the 90s, Leeds wouldn't go away without a fight. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was brilliant in his first season and continued that in his second as he opened the scoring here.
United showed phenomenal character throughout the campaign, coming from behind several times and this was one of those times. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Dwight Yorke scored twice in two minutes before being pegged back again by Harry Kewell.
Combative midfielder Nicky Butt grabbed a late winner in a season that the Reds would secure an unmatched treble and Leeds secured Champions League football.
7. Leeds United 3-4 Manchester United - March 2002
The reigning champions were once again entering a transitional period under Sir Alex and Leeds were having their best period in the Premier League era under David O'Leary when this corker happened.
As both sides looked to make the Champions League, Elland Road was electric with over 40,000 fans in attendance.
It was a back and forth affair but ultimately Man Utd were able to hold off a late fight back to claim all three points and eventually claim third - while Leeds finished fifth as their downward spiral began.
8. Leeds United 1-0 Manchester United - September 2002
That summer Manchester United paid a world record fee to sign defender Rio Ferdinand, making him the first man to cross the battle line between the clubs since Cantona.
His return to Elland Road didn't go to plan though, as Kewell's header saw Terry Venables' side claim all three points in an eventful game. The victory turned out to be vital as the club avoided relegation by just five points at the end of the season, while Man Utd won the title yet again.
9. Manchester United 0-1 Leeds United - January 2010
The biggest upset to ever occur between the two sides came in 2010 in the FA Cup.
Leeds were, by this point, playing in the third tier of English football after financial issues, while Manchester United had appeared in consecutive Champions League finals in the two seasons prior.
The magic of the cup was in the air though, as lowly Leeds progressed to the fourth-round when Jermaine Beckford latched on to a long ball from the back to out-run Nemanja Vidic and roll the ball past Tomasz Kuszczak for a famous victory.
