Marc Skinner: 'No indication' Man Utd takeover uncertainty will hamper women's team
Manchester United manager Marc Skinner has revealed there is ‘no indication’ that any delays to a potential takeover of the club will negatively impact the immediate future of the women’s team in terms of planning and recruitment.
Takeover bids from INEOS, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and Qatar, fronted by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, have been submitted. But, as 90min has reported, the Glazer family are keen for their valuation of the club to be met and are standing firm over a price believe to be £6bn.
It has caused a degree of uncertainty with the possibility that the process could now be delayed.
When it was first announced in November that the Glazer family were looking at ‘strategic alternatives’ for United, Skinner confirmed that it was business as usual for the women’s setup. That message hasn’t changed even with the process and timeframe becoming slightly unclear.
“The brilliance of the board here is they allow us to do our jobs,” he said on Wednesday.
“We’ve planned ahead as well, so there are no barriers to us doing that. They’ve supported everything we’ve tried to do so far and there has been no communication of that.”
Skinner added that head of women’s football Polly Bancroft is in daily contact with football director John Murtough and reiterated it is ‘business as usual’ as far as his team is concerned.
The United boss, who has led his team to the top of the WSL this season continued to praise the overall support from the club to the women’s side.
“The beauty of this team is if it makes sense and fits within the growth of what we’re trying to achieve here, then everything is taken seriously,” he said.
“Whenever we put forward opportunities to improve the squad or the facilities – we’re just building a brand-new training facility. We’re progressing and continuing to work as normal.”
