Mauricio Pochettino vs Eddie Howe: Complete head-to-head record
- Mauricio Pochettino and Eddie Howe will reunite in the Premier League this season
- The pair have met eight times before when Tottenham faced Bournemouth
- Pochettino is the manager who has enjoyed the majority of bragging rights
Mauricio Pochettino and Eddie Howe are ready to renew their Premier League rivalry this season, although they now find themselves at different clubs from their last meeting.
Pochettino has taken the helm at Stamford Bridge and will lead his Chelsea side out against Howe's Newcastle United this campaign.
However, their eight past meetings have come in different circumstances, back when Pochettino resided in the Tottenham Hotspur dugout and Howe graced the touchline at Bournemouth.
Here is how the two managers have fared against one another in the past.
1. Bournemouth 1-5 Tottenham (25/10/2015)
Howe's first meeting with Pochettino was one to forget for the former Bournemouth coach, his Cherries demolished on the south coast.
Despite Matt Ritchie, who has reunited with Howe at Newcastle, giving Bournemouth the lead after just a minute, the Cherries still found themselves 3-1 down at half-time. Harry Kane's penalty levelled the scores, before Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela gave the visitors the lead.
Kane then bagged a second-half brace to leave the Vitality Stadium with the match ball - his third hat-trick in a Spurs shirt.
2. Tottenham 3-0 Bournemouth (20/03/2016)
Later in the 2015/16 season, it was Tottenham's turn to score a first-minute opener, with Kane grabbing another goal against the Cherries.
While he couldn't bag his second hat-trick of the season against Howe's side, he did get himself a brace 15 minutes after his first, with Christian Eriksen adding a third early in the second half.
Another Pochettino-inspired drubbing for Howe.
3. Bournemouth 0-0 Tottenham (22/10/2016)
After being on the end of a couple of humbling defeats by Pochettino, Howe managed to frustrate the Argentine on his next visit to Bournemouth.
A Kane-less Spurs couldn't find a way past a surprisingly resolute Bournemouth defence, with the likes of Son Heung-min and Dele Alli unable to find a winner in a dull lunch-time affair.
4. Tottenham 4-0 Bournemouth (15/04/2017)
With Kane back in the starting lineup, Spurs found their shooting boots against Bournemouth after drawing a blank earlier in the season.
The now Bayern Munich man only grabbed the one, adding to goals from Dembele and Son in the first half, while Vincent Janssen grabbed a rare Tottenham goal in stoppage time to put the cherry on top of a comfortable victory.
5. Tottenham 1-0 Bournemouth (14/10/2017)
As Howe's Bournemouth continued to struggle against Spurs, the Cherries fell to another defeat in their first meeting of the 2017/18 season despite a valiant effort.
A Bournemouth back five frustrated the Lilywhites for the first half at Wembley, but Eriksen's early goal in the second half ended up being the difference between the two sides.
6. Bournemouth 1-4 Tottenham (11/03/2018)
Similarly to Howe's first meeting with Pochettino, his Bournemouth side suffered another emphatic defeat despite taking an early lead.
Junior Stanislas had given the hosts the advantage, but Dele levelled proceedings ten minutes before the break.
This time it was Son who proved the thorn in Bournemouth's side, grabbing two second half goals, before Serge Aurier wrapped up the three points with a header in stoppage time.
7. Tottenham 5-0 Bournemouth (26/12/2018)
An enjoyable late Christmas present for Pochettino, Tottenham battered Bournemouth once again on Boxing Day.
Tottenham raced into a three-goal lead at half-time, Eriksen, who always enjoyed a goal against the Cherries, as Son and Lucas Moura also added their names to the scoresheet.
Kane did get his customary goal against Bournemouth after the break and Son grabbed his second with 20 minutes remaining.
8. Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham (04/05/2019)
Finally, Howe managed to get some long-awaited revenge on Pochettino in the penultimate game of the 2018/19 season. However, Bournemouth did get some help from their visitors.
In a feisty and controversial affair, Son and Juan Foyth got themselves sent off, leaving Spurs with nine men and the majority of the second half to go.
It looked as if Spurs would hold out for an impressive point given the circumstances, but Nathan Ake's 91st minute header gave Howe's Bournemouth a win over Spurs and Pochettino at long last.
9. Newcastle 4-1 Chelsea (25/11/2023)
Pochettino left Tottenham in late 2019 and Howe was gone after Bournemouth's relegation little under a year later.
Their next meeting came with both in charge of financial behemoths in Chelsea and Newcastle. They met in November 2023 and appeared to be at very different stages in their development in a one-sided fixture.
The Blues, who had suffered a few disappointing results in Pochettino's debut season, collapsed in the second half with a 4-1 defeat, having gone in at half-time level at 1-1 after strikes from Alexander Isak and Raheem Sterling.
Two goals in two minutes from Jamaal Lascelles and Joelinton proved crucial before Anthony Gordon wrapped up the scoring.
10. Chelsea 1-1 (5-3p) Newcastle (19/12/2023)
Chelsea reached the Carabao Cup final in their debut season with Pochettino, with this victory over Howe's outfit a crucial step.
Mykhailo Mudryk sensationally equalised in the 92nd minute after Newcastle had sat on a lead given to them by Callum Wilson.
The quarter-final went straight to penalties and the Blues were perfect from the spot, netting all five attempts. The visitors wobbled as Kieran Trippier and Matt Ritchie missed, sending Chelsea through to the final four.
