Merseyside derby: When do Liverpool and Everton play each other in 2023/24?
By Euan Burns
The release of Premier League fixtures has left fans scrambling through the internet trying to see when their team will face their biggest rivals.
The two games that are often looked at first are the opening fixture and the final-day outing. Fans then start to look for when they face their biggest rivals, as plans need to be made in advance to ensure the game is seen, ideally with friends.
That is even more prevalent for Liverpool and Everton supporters given it is so common for those Merseysiders to be close friends or even family members. They share the same area of the city and spend their lives side by side.
Here are the dates when Liverpool and Everton will face off in the Merseyside derby in 2023/24.
Premier League dates for Liverpool vs Everton in 2023/24
Date | Time | Fixture |
---|---|---|
21/10/2023 | 15:00 | Liverpool vs Everton |
16/03/2024 | 15:00 | Everton vs Liverpool |
Visiting Anfield is rarely fun for Everton. The Toffees have been the lesser of the two sides for a very long time and it has routinely been laid bare at Anfield in recent seasons.
Everton will be able to get a fair old chunk of their season out of the way before they have to start thinking too seriously about going to Anfield, as the game is scheduled for October 21.
As for the reverse fixture, it's not close enough to the end of the season for either team to provide a fatal blow to the other's hopes of glory or avoiding damnation. It's not hard to imagine that Liverpool will be in a title race while Everton are again scrapping around to avoid getting relegated.
The second fixture between the two sides in the 2023/24 Premier League season will take place on March 16, with plenty of games still left to play.

As mentioned and also widely assumed, Liverpool have got the beating of Everton historically when it comes to head-to-head record. There have been periods in history where Everton have been a very successful side, but Liverpool have had much longer spells on top of this rivalry.
Everton did manage to grab a 2-0 win at Anfield in the Premier League during the 2020/21 season, but their previous win at Anfield in any competition dates back to the 1999/00 season when they won 1-0.
That perfectly exhibits why Everton may not be looking forward to this fixture, while for Liverpool, there are always nerves and concern but an understandable confidence about the task.
Liverpool may be even stronger at home against Everton, but that doesn't mean they haven't enjoyed visiting Goodison Park too. The Toffees have not won at home against Liverpool since the 2010/11 season. There have been plenty of draws, though, with Liverpool only winning three games at Goodison Park since then.
Given how tough the season is likely to be for Everton, they would certainly take another draw against Liverpool at Goodison Park. There have been a staggering five 0-0 draws in the last nine meetings between the two sides at Everton's home ground.
