Mexico's Chucky Lozano rejoins PSV Eindhoven
- Lozano departs Napoli after winning Scudetto in 2022/23 season
- Rejoins Dutch side after successful first stint from 2017-2019
- 28-year-old signs five-year deal with PSV
Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven have confirmed Mexico national team figure Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano has rejoined the club after departing Napoli.
Lozano will be received with open arms at PSV, as it's where he made his name in Europe after leaving Liga MX side Pucha in 2017. In his first stint with PSV, the 28-year-old racked up an impressive 40 goals and 23 assists in 79 appearances across all competitions while helping the Dutch side to a 2017/18 league title win.
The move back to his former club comes after he had fallen out of favor at Napoli, who are fresh off a Scudetto triumph in 2022/23, where he made scored 30 goals and dished out 17 assists in 155 appearances for the Serie A side.
"PSV have completed the signing of Hirving Lozano from SSC Napoli. The club and winger have reached agreement over a five-year deal. During his previous stint in the Philips Stadion from 2017-19, the Mexican became the darling of the crowd," the club said in a press release.
At PSV, Lozano will link up with fellow talented forwards such as Johan Bakayoko, and US men's national team figure Ricardo Pepi.
"We were told some time ago that Hirving Lozano wanted to return to PSV," Eindhoven director of football Earnest Stewart said in a release. "It is not easy to bring back a Serie A player to the Eredivisie, but he has exceptional and incomparable qualities, so we were keen on re-signing him.
"This transfer is the next step to realise our ambitions of being successful in the Dutch league and the UEFA Champions League."
PSV are off to a perfect start in the Eredivisie in 2023/24, winning their first three games and sitting in second place in the league on goal difference. In the Champions League in Group B, PSV will take on Arsenal, Sevilla and Lens, with the first fixture coming on September 20 against the Gunners at Emirates Stadium.
