Mikel Arteta picks up fourth Premier League booking in 2023/24 vs Brighton
- Arteta booked by referee Tim Robinson for reaction to foul on Bukayo Saka
- Spaniard has already served a one-game ban for three yellow cards
- Also avoided FA charge for comments at Newcastle
Mikel Arteta picked up his fourth yellow card as Arsenal manager of the 2023/24 Premier League season on Sunday afternoon against Brighton.
The Gunners boss has made headlines consistently throughout the campaign for his interactions with referees and comments after games, most notably calling the performance of officials in his side's 1-0 defeat to Newcastle "a disgrace" and "embarrassing".
Arteta received his fourth booking of the league season after responding to a foul from Seagulls winger Kaoru Mitoma on Bukayo Saka. The Japan international was cautioned by referee Tim Robinson but Arteta's sarcastic reaction also saw him go into the book.
The Arsenal manager's most recent yellow card was for 'excessive celebrating' after Declan Rice struck late at Kenilworth Road to secure a 4-3 win over Luton Town earlier this month. It resulted in Arteta watching on from the stands during the 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.
Four more bookings throughout the season will result in a two-game touchline ban for Arteta, who will hope not to get anywhere near the 16 yellow cards that would result in a FA misconduct hearing.
Arteta has already beaten an FA charge for alleged misconduct. Those comments at Newcastle were dismissed by an independent commission.
Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring in Sunday's clash at the Emirates before Kai Havertz netted a late second to wrap up the points.
