Milan 2-0 Torino: Player ratings as Rossoneri put the Bull to the sword at San Siro
By Max Cooper
Milan got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Torino on Saturday evening, re-establishing their four-point lead at the top of the table.
Rafael Leao got the ball rolling for I Rossoneri after 25 minutes, slotting a cool finish beyond the goalkeeper from a Brahim Diaz through ball. Diaz then drew a foul from Andrea Belotti in the penalty area, and Franck Kessie made it 2-0, sending Salvatore Sirigu the wrong way from the spot.
Milan controlled play in the second half, and restricted Torino to only a handful of half-chances, picking up the three points and consolidating their place at Serie A's summit for another weekend.
Let's check out the player ratings from a cracking evening of football at San Siro.
1. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Gianluigi Donnarumma (GK) - 7/10 - Had little to do in the first half, although he would have been relieved to see Ricardo Rodriguez's free kick rattle the crossbar.
Davide Calabria (RB) - 8/10 - Back in his normal position (for the first half, anyway) after occupying a midfield role against Juventus, Calabria was at his best. Solid and determined at the back, while elegant going forward.
Simon Kjaer (CB) - 8/10 - Produced a vital last-ditch tackle to deny Torino a clear goalscoring opportunity, flying across to block a vicious shot. Such a vital cog in this Milan defence.
Alessio Romagnoli (CB) - 7/10 - Picked up a first-half booking and had to be on his best behaviour from thereon in. Led by example, as always, when backs were against the wall.
Theo Hernandez (LB) - 8/10 - Won a couple of free kicks in dangerous positions with his bombing runs down the left flank. Always looking to support the attacking action, and reluctantly did his defensive work well.
2. Midfielders
Frank Kessie (CM) - 8/10 - Cool as you like when taking his penalty, swaggering up to the ball and giving the goalkeeper the eyes. Easy does it. Should have bagged a second, but somehow hit his shot straight at the goalkeeper.
Sandro Tonali (CM) - 7/10 - Milan looked much better with Tonali back in the midfield, biting into challenges and distributing the ball as quickly and efficiently as possible. Took a huge kick to the back of the leg and had to be stretchered off. Worrying scenes.
Brahim Diaz (AM) - 8/10 - Vital to Milan's first half success, playing Leao in on goal with a lovely ball to provide the first, then winning a penalty to supply the second.
3. Forwards
Samuel Castillejo (RW) - 7/10 - Linked up well with Calabria down the right flank, and did his fair share of defensive duties too, tracking back and putting the cover on when needed.
Rafael Leao (ST) - 9/10 - Wow. What a player! Opened the scoring with a calm, cold-blooded finish, all the while pulling Torino's backline apart with his pacy, direct running. Almost bagged an assist when playing Kessie in behind, but the Ivorian fluffed his lines. A wonderful display, filled with trickery, speed and intelligence.
Jens Petter Hauge (LW) - 7/10 - Full of energy and youthful exuberance. Drifted around the pitch, allowing Leao to ghost into his channel and occupy dangerous positions. Always prepared to take on his full-back.
4. Substitutes
Diogo Dalot (RB) - 5/10
Hakan Calhanoglu (AM) - 6/10
Daniel Maldini (CM) - N/A
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (ST) - N/A
