With the New Year underway, teams around Major League Soccer continue to make adjustments to their rosters with the 2024 regular season slowly approaching.

The 2022 MLS Cup winners have made a big move for a legendary shot-stopper from across the pond, while a couple of attacking-minded players have have moved to the Eastern Conference.

Here are all the latest MLS transfers you may have missed.


1. Tyler Boyd traded from LA Galaxy to Nashville SC

Nashville SC have traded for LA Galaxy forward Tyler Boyd in exchange for up to $775k in General Allocation Money (GAM) and two international roster spots.

Boyd made 39 appearances for the Galaxy in 2023 upon joining in February, as he added eight goals and five assists for the Western Conference side in a season in which they struggled tremendously to get any sort of momentum going.

"Tyler is an outstanding attacking player who has proven the ability to create and finish scoring chances in MLS, abroad and with the US men’s national team," Nashville general manager Mike Jacobs said in a release.

"He is a great fit on and off the field, and we are excited to add him to our group."

2. LAFC sign Hugo Lloris from Tottenham Hotspur

Longtime Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Hugo Lloris has signed a one-year deal with 2022 MLS Cup champions LAFC with club options for 2025 and 2026.

Lloris departs North London on a free transfer after making 400-plus appearances for Spurs that includes a UEFA Champions League final appearance in 2019.

The 37-year-old is France's all-time appearances leader with 145 showings, as he captained his country to two FIFA World Cup finals, coming away with the 2018 title over Croatia.

"Hugo is arguably the most successful goalkeeper of his generation and a proven winner. We are incredibly excited that Hugo has chosen LAFC for the next phase of his illustrious career," LAFC co-president & general manager John Thorrington said in a release.

"He brings unprecedented leadership experience at the highest levels of football, which we know will greatly benefit our club in our pursuit of more trophies. I would like to thank Tottenham for their collaboration, and I join all of Los Angeles in extending a warm welcome to Hugo, his wife Marine, and their three children to LAFC."

3. DC United sign Gabriel Pirani on permanent deal from Santos FC

DC United have made midfielder Gabriel Pirani's loan move permanent with Brazilian top flight side Santos FC.

Pirani joined for the second half of the 2023 season from Santos in July 2023, as he made 10 appearances while scoring one goal for the Eastern Conference side.

"We are excited to sign Gabriel permanently after an impressive loan stint with us last season," general manager and chief soccer officer Ally Mackay said in a release.

"We saw glimpses of Pirani’s playmaking abilities last year and we believe he has a high ceiling for development in this league. He is a very technical midfielder who has the ability to unlock defenses with his vision, technical ability, and passing range. We're looking forward to welcoming him back to the team ahead of preseason."

4. Yimmi Chara departs Portland Timbers for Junior FC

Yimmi Chara returns home to his native Colombia to join Junior FC after spending four seasons with Portland Timbers in MLS.

Upon arriving in Portland in January 2020, he went on to amass 18 goals and 15 assists in 116 appearances across all competitions.

"We would like to thank Yimmi for his contributions and commitment to the club over the past four seasons. He has been a true professional during his time in Portland," said Timbers general manager Ned Grabavoy in a release.

"We wish him all the best with the opportunity to return to a club he has a history with and reuniting with his family."

The 32-year-old returns for his second stint with Junior, as he first played for the Colombian side from July 2017-May 2018 before joining Atletico Mineiro in June 2018.
