The Premier League is often referred to as the 'best in the world' and that's largely due to the regularity of goals in England's top flight.

Alongside the Bundesliga, the Premier League frequently tops the goalscoring charts come the end of the season among Europe's top divisions, and this campaign looks like it will be no different.

In fact, Gameweek 23 actually set a Premier League record for the most goals in a single gameweek, with 12 different sides netting two or more and five clubs bagging four or more in a drama-fuelled weekend of football.

Here are the most goal-packed Premier League gameweeks in the competition's history.

4. Gameweek 26 - 2010/11 (43 goals)

Excluding Premier League seasons in which there were 22 teams rather than 20, as well as matchdays which involved more than ten matches, the 2010/11 campaign saw the record set for most goals in a single gameweek.

During Gameweek 26, a staggering 43 goals were scored across all ten games, and it would have been even more if Liverpool and Birmingham City hadn't won by just a single goal on the Sunday of a goal-packed weekend.

The gameweek included Wigan Athletic beating Blackburn Rovers 4-3, as well as a four-goal haul from Louis Saha during Everton's 5-3 victory over Blackpool on the Saturday.

However, the most remarkable match was undoubtedly the famous 4-4 draw between Newcastle United and Arsenal at St James' Park, the Gunners surrendering a four-goal half-time lead on Tyneside.

Just shy of a decade later, the Premier League record was broken on the second gameweek of the campaign. With teams playing in front of empty stadiums due to the coronavirus pandemic, only three sides in the division failed to score as the overall tally hit 44 goals.

Son Heung-min scored 11% of them with four against Southampton in a 5-2 victory with Tottenham, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin also netted a hat-trick in Everton's win against West Bromwich Albion by the same scoreline.

Leicester City and Leeds United both bagged four themselves, while Liverpool, Aston Villa and Brighton were the only sides to keep clean sheets.

Things got off to a flying start in the first game of the matchday, Crystal Palace beating West Ham United 4-3 at Selhurst Park, with Brighton putting six past Wolverhampton Wanderers later that day.

Bournemouth managed a 4-1 victory against Leeds on the Sunday, while Liverpool played out a spectacular seven-goal thriller with Spurs at Anfield. The Reds had surrendered a three-goal lead in second-half stoppage time, but Diogo Jota's 94th-minute winner spared their blushes.

The action continued on Monday and Tuesday, with four goals in Leicester vs Everton and Chelsea vs Arsenal.

Gameweek 23 of the 2023/24 season set a new shiny record for most goals in a single Premier League matchday, with 45 strikes across the ten fixtures.

Saturday's five games were full of goals, each match having a minimum of four. Most notably, Newcastle and Luton Town played out a staggering 4-4 draw at St James' Park, while Aston Villa put five unanswered goals past a woeful Sheffield United.

Sunday also had its fair share of drama, Wolves beating Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge and Arsenal defeating Liverpool 3-1 elsewhere in London.

However, Monday's 3-1 victory for Manchester City against Brentford was the game that stole the record, Phil Foden's hat-trick proving pivotal.
