Motherwell host a jubilant, league-leading Celtic side in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

The Well go into the weekend's fixtures fourth in the table but a whopping 24 points behind their upcoming visitors. Celtic, conversely, will be still riding the crest of the wave generated by their 3-0 statement victory over Old Firm rivals Rangers in midweek.

Here's all you need to know about the upcoming meeting between these sides with decidedly contrasting form.

Motherwell team news

Rickie Lamie hasn't appeared for Motherwell since picking up a knock ahead of the club's previous meeting with Celtic in mid-December. The 28-year-old centre-back is expected to add to his seven-game absence.

Midfielder Barry Maguire is also a doubt after the 23-year-old missed out on the Well's last gasp draw against St Mirren in midweek with a knee injury.

Celtic team news

One of the most impressive aspects of Celtic's potentially season-defining victory over Rangers was the number of absentees Ange Postecoglou had to juggle.

The table toppers have been - and may well continue to be - without Kyogo Furuhashi, David Turnbull and Albian Ajeti as the trio nurse hamstring injuries. Yosuke Ideguchi and Karamoko Dembele are also doubts for Sunday's trip to Fir Park.

It remains to be seen whether Postecoglou will throw Tom Rogic straight back into action after the Australia international represented his country in Oman on Tuesday, a ten hour flight from Glasgow.

Motherwell vs Celtic head-to-head record

Celtic have already twice beaten Motherwell this season, extending their winning run to ten Premiership games against their upcoming hosts. The Well haven't won any of their previous 19 matches against the Bhoys, last recording a victory thanks to a Louis Moult brace in 2015.

That double-digit winning sequence is the second-longest Celtic have ever recorded against Motherwell across more than 100 years of matches. Only between 1961 and 1974 - under the stewardship of two legendary figures, Jimmy McGrory and then Jock Stein - have Celtic racked up more consecutive victories against Motherwell (22 wins on the spin).

Motherwell vs Celtic score prediction

The Well are yet to record a single victory in 2022, a return that stands in stark contrast to Celtic's current run of 11 wins from their last 12 games across all competitions (D1), which have included seven clean sheets.

Enlivened by a performance that has emphatically propelled them back into the title race, Celtic are perhaps the least likely side to give Motherwell a first win of the new year.

Prediction: Motherwell 0-2 Celtic
