Netherlands predicted lineup vs North Macedonia - Euro 2020
By Max Parsons
Netherlands play the final match of their Group C campaign on Monday evening, taking on North Macedonia at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
It will be North Macedonia's final game of their first ever major tournament, after a 2-1 loss to Ukraine last time out made it impossible for them to qualify for the round of 16 - but, hey, we've all grown to love them.
For Netherlands, however, a convincing 2-0 win over Austria on matchday two pushed them onto six points and confirmed their title as Group C winners heading into the knockout stages. This could persuade Frank de Boer to rotate his starting XI, although it's still expected to be a strong lineup as they head into Monday's tie looking to maintain a 100% record at Euro 2020.
So, in an effort to make it three wins from three, here's the Netherlands lineup that could start against North Macedonia.
Netherlands predicted lineup vs North Macedonia - Euro 2020
1. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Maarten Stekelenburg (GK) - The 38-year old has done a good job between the sticks in Jasper Cillesen's absence and should continue as De Boer's first choice.
Stefan De Vrij (CB) - Looked much more comfortable out on the right rather than in the centre of a back three against Austria and should continue there.
Matthijs de Ligt (CB) - A commanding performance last time out highlighted his importance to this side - especially in Virgil van Dijk's absence - and at just 21, he's a crucial starter.
Nathan Ake (CB) - Daley Blind has played well up to this point but, with top spot wrapped up, De Boer may give his legs a rest and play Ake, who's featured as a substitute for the past two matches.
2. Wing-backs & Midfielders
Denzel Dumfries (RWB) - One of the players of the tournament so far, Dumfries has been sensational. He's a huge threat on that Netherlands right, and has notched two goals already.
Ryan Gravenberch (CM) - With potential rotation, we could get a better glimpse of 19-year old starlet Gravenberch - an exciting youngster who could really announce himself with a top performance.
Georginio Wijnaldum (CM) - At the core of most good things this Netherlands side does, Wijnaldum is a guaranteed starter.
Frenkie de Jong (CM) - Injects a slick intensity to the midfield and finds dictating a match as easy as anything. A joy to watch, and could make things very difficult for Monday's opponents.
Patrick van Aanholt (LWB) - Has faired well on the left thus far and appears to be full of running.
3. Forwards
Memphis Depay (ST) - Hasn't been the best Euro 2020 in terms of goals, having struck just once (from the penalty spot) but is a huge asset in the side and will surely represent a large part in any success they get.
Donyell Malen (ST) - Wout Weghorst could be afforded a rest, meaning a potential opportunity for Malen. Came on off the bench last time out and was very bright, assisting Dumfries late on for 2-0.
