New York Red Bulls sign midfielder Ronald Donkor
The New York Red Bulls have signed Ronaldo Donkor to a four-year contract that runs until 2026 with an option to extend for a further season.
The transfer was completed on April 24, just before the league's Primary Transfer Deadline. The eighteen year-old will take up one of New York's international roster spots.
"I'm happy to welcome Ronald to our club. He is a very interesting young player, and our goal is to help him learn our style and continue to develop," head coach Gerhard Struber expressed.
"Ronald is an exciting young player that we believe will fit well in our club," Red Bulls Director of Football Jochen Schneider said. "He is a box-to-box midfielder that has sound technical abilities, and we look forward to his continued development within our environment."
Donkor previously played for JMG Football Academy before signing for Guidars FC, both based in Mali. Internationally, he has represented Mali internationally at the youth level.
The signing adds depth to the New York Red Bulls, as they struggle to kick off the 2023 MLS campaign. The team currently sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with nine points heading into Saturday's home game against the Philadelphia Union.
