Newcastle predicted lineup vs Leeds

Newcastle host Leeds in the Premier League on Friday night looking for a first win of the season - a win that would move the Magpies out of the relegation zone.

Steve Bruce’s side were beaten 4-1 by Manchester United in their last outing but will take hope from the fact they were able to equalise at Old Trafford before the game got beyond them.

Here’s a look at the starting XI the boss could pick against Leeds.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Karl Darlow (GK): Could make his first appearance of the season after suffering badly with a bout of coronavirus during the summer. Freddie Woodman has deputised but was poor last time out.

Fabian Schar (CB): Newcastle leaked four goals in each of the games the Swiss international hasn’t played this season. Chance of being recalled from the bench.

Federico Fernandez (CB): Another who could be recalled at the back after missing out last time.

Jamaal Lascelles (CB): Despite not playing in the opening game of the season last month, the skipper has played every Premier League minute since and is one of the first names on the team-sheet.

2. Midfielders

Jacob Murphy (RM): The more naturally defensive Javier Manquillo was preferred at Old Trafford, making it ironic he got himself a goal, but this game calls for a more attack-minded wing-back.

Joe Willock (CM): The £25m summer signing has overcome a minor knock suffered last weekend and is fit enough to start here.

Sean Longstaff (CM): Has played 90 minutes in each of the last two games and did impress at Old Trafford in the first half last weekend before the match got away from Newcastle.

Miguel Almiron (CM): The Paraguayan’s electric pace could be devastating to blow open any holes there might be in the Leeds’ midfield.

Matt Ritchie (LM): An ever-present in the Premier League so far and will be hoping to add to the assist he managed in the opening game of the season.

3. Forwards

Allan Saint-Maximin (ST): Like Almiron, Newcastle’s greatest threat will be his pace. Powerful running driving at the heart of what stands to be a patched up Leeds defence will provide chances.

Joelinton (ST): Callum Wilson’s continued absence means another chance for the Brazilian. He has to do more to position himself for better goalscoring chances.
