Aston Villa head to St James' Park on Wednesday night to take on Newcastle in the Premier League.

The home side smashed a rotten Sheffield United on their return to action, winning 3-0 to take themselves that bit closer to the 40-point mark.

Conversely, Villa have managed just one point from their two games since the restart and remain firmly in the relegation zone. However, should they beat the Magpies and other results go their way, the Villans could move out of the bottom three.

For the home side, midfielder Jack Colback remains injured and will not feature, and neither will Dutch full back Jetro Willems, who has a knee issue.

Matty Longstaff trained on Monday and brother Sean still has a niggle, with manager Steve Bruce indicating both will likely miss out on Wednesday. Florian Lejeune is back in light training but fellow defender Ciaran Clark still has a sore ankle.

For the away side, centre back Bjorn Engels is out with an Achilles injury. Goalkeeper Tom Heaton and striker Wesley are also ruled out with knee problems.

Frederic Guilbert is in contention, having returned to training after previously suffering a knee injury. Danny Drinkwater has picked up a knock and is unlikely to start.

Newcastle head into Wednesday night's clash on a three-game unbeaten streak in the league. They most recently beat high-flyers Sheffield United, but also won at Southampton and drew with Burnley before the hiatus in play.

Following Sunday's defeat to Chelsea, Villa are without a win in six Premier League matches, a run of results which has done little for their survival hopes. Yet to keep a clean sheet away from home this season, the Villans' last league win came back in January in the form of a 2-1 victory over Watford.

You have to go back to 2005 to find the last time Villa came away from St James' Park with a win. Hardly inspiring stuff.

Newcastle were evidently enjoying themselves during the Sheffield United win, with the form of Allan Saint-Maximim in particular pleasing on the eye, so expect the confident Frenchman to be influential throughout against Villa.

Villa managed a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture but just can't seem to catch a break at the moment, so expect Newcastle to pick up three points on Wednesday.
