Newcastle team news

Howe admitted they would be 'keeping our fingers crossed' for Allan Saint-Maximin's fitness this weekend. The beguiling winger 'was some way short' of featuring against Brentford last weekend according to Howe, but could be 'a lot closer' on Saturday.

The key duo Kieran Trippier (foot) and Callum Wilson (calf) aren't expected to return until the tail-end of the campaign.

Both Isaac Hayden (knee) and Jamal Lewis (groin) finally gave into long-term underlying physical concerns at the start of the year and are set to be given the foreseeable future to fully recover.

Matt Ritchie, however, is creeping towards a return from a knee injury he innocuously picked up while swinging his foot through a ball.

Brighton team news

Brighton have won one of the 11 Premier League matches Adam Webster has missed this season, collecting their fourth such defeat at home to Aston Villa last weekend. The seemingly integral centre-back is a doubt for the trip north this Saturday as well after an injury setback.

Summer arrival Enock Mwepu has been out with a hamstring concern since the start of January but could return in some capacity this weekend.

The 19-year-old forward Jeremy Sarmiento has made a long-awaited return to training but isn't expected to add to his 21 Premier League minutes imminently.

Newcastle vs Brighton score prediction

2022 has been a year to remember for the Magpies so far. Howe's side boast an average of 2.3 points per game this calendar year, a ratio only title-chasing Liverpool can better.

Brighton have only salvaged nine points from their eight league matches since Auld Lang Syne got its annual rendition.

However, despite the differing form, Brighton aren't an easy side to defeat, particularly on their travels - as Newcastle have repeatedly experienced in the past.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-1 Brighton
