Newcastle host Manchester United on Sunday in a Premier League fixture which could have major ramifications in the Champions League qualification race.

The Magpies are two points behind fourth placed Tottenham but would jump above both Spurs and Man Utd with victory over the Red Devils, who themselves are looking to edge closer to Manchester City in second.

The sides have already squared off twice this season, the most recent being the Carabao Cup final in late February which Man Utd won 2-0.

Newcastle team news

Anthony Gordon is still touch and go to be fit for Sunday's clash, having spent time in Dubai during the international break for rehab on an ankle problem.

Nick Pope, Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin all reported injuries or illness after the 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest but have been passed fit and available for manager Eddie Howe.

Sven Botman was one of the Netherlands players to be affected by a sickness outbreak but should be fine to start here. Miguel Almiron and Emil Krafth are both absent, but Joelinton should start on his return from suspension.

Newcastle predicted lineup vs Man Utd

Newcastle predicted lineup (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Saint-Maximin.

Man Utd team news

Casemiro remains suspended for this game as well as clashes with Brentford and Everton after his second red card of the season. There is hope Christian Eriksen can return from his lay-off soon, but this match will come too soon.

Marcus Rashford dropped out of the England squad during the break but manager Erik ten Hag expects the forward to be ready in time. Anthony Martial has been training consistently for two weeks and could make the matchday squad.

Raphael Varane and Marcel Sabitzer should shake off knocks to start, but Donny van de Beek and Alejandro Garnacho are long-term absentees.

Man Utd predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Dalot; Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Sabitzer, Fred; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst.

Newcastle vs Man Utd score prediction

This is a huge game in the hunt for top four finishes. A Newcastle win could blow the race wide open again and Man Utd do have a number of fitness concerns which will count against them on Sunday. Casemiro's absence is also a major factor.

The Magpies do boast the best defence in the Premier League this season and held the Red Devils to a goalless draw in the previous league meeting.

However, Man Utd are the firmer favourites and hold a mental edge thanks to their 2-0 Carabao Cup final victory back in late February.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Man Utd
