Newly promoted Wrexham lines up friendly with LA Galaxy II

Wrexham is headed to the United States.

Chaos – of the good variety – has fallen upon the small Welsh city of Wrexham, thanks to their historic namesake club’s return to the English Football League.

The oldest club in Wales, and third-oldest professional association football team in the world, was famously acquired by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2020 and last month promoted out of the fifth tier with a 3–1 victory over Boreham Wood.

And now they’ll be traveling to Los Angeles for a friendly against the LA Galaxy’s reserve team, the LA Galaxy II on July 22.

"We've enjoyed meeting supporters who have travelled over from America to visit us this season, and it will be a fantastic occasion to play against American opposition in front of more of these new fans," manager Phil Parkinson said in a statement.

The club will bookend the Galaxy II match in their U.S. tour with friendlies against Chelsea in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on July 19, and Manchester United in San Diego on July 25.

With the draw of It’s Always Sunny cult favorite McElhenney and likable Ryan Reynold’s popularity propelling Stateside fandom through the Disney+ docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, it’s anyone’s guess as to where the team goes from here.

Wherever it does in fact go, will be followed closely by the millions who’ve hitched themselves to the 158-year-old club’s bandwagon, from a front-row seat on the pitch’s half-way line.
