Niamh Charles signs new long-term Chelsea contract

Niamh Charles has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with Chelsea, keeping her at the club until 2025.
The 23-year-old joined the Blues from Liverpool in 2020, and has gone on to win five major trophies during her time in west London: two WSL titles, two FA Cups and the Continental Cup.
Charles has transitioned from an attacking wide player into a fullback under Emma Hayes' stewardship, and went on to earn her maiden senior England cap during her debut season with the Blues, coming off the bench against France in April 2021.
"I’m really proud to have signed a new contract with Chelsea and to continue representing the badge with pride," said Charles.
"The past two years have been incredible and I’m excited to continue developing both as an individual and with the team. I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together in the next few years.
"I can’t thank the fans enough for the support they’ve shown me and the team and we’re all excited to see them again at Kingsmeadow next week."
Charles becomes the latest Chelsea player to commit her future to the club, after Millie Bright also signed a new three-year deal.
It continues a busy summer for Chelsea under new owner Todd Boehly following the arrival of five new signings during the transfer window - Eve Perisset, Kadeisha Buchanan, Katerina Svitkova, Lucy Watson and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd.
"We are delighted for Niamh to extend her contract with the club," added general manager Paul Green. "She has been developing well over the last couple of years and we look forward to seeing her continue to improve and develop over the next three years."
