Nuno Espirito Santo has given his first statement since being fired as Tottenham manager earlier in November.

The former Wolves boss was dismissed following a poor run of form that culminated in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, leaving with a record of five wins and five defeats in ten Premier League games.

He was ditched and swiftly replaced by former Juventus and Inter manager Antonio Conte, who has overseen a 3-2 Europa Conference League victory over Vitesse and a 0-0 draw with Everton in his first two games in charge.

Now, Nuno has admitted his Spurs tenure "didn’t go to plan".

He posted on Instagram: "Wow, the last few weeks have been hectic to say the least. This is football the most ruthless sport in the game, only a couple of weeks back I was crowned Manager of the Month and fast forward to the present and it’s been some days since my dismissal at Spurs.

"This is life, I move on forward now looking for my next challenge and finally I want to thank the fans of Spurs, when I joined this great club I envisaged a vision to bring trophies but all didn’t go to plan.

"That’s all’s [sic] really we live and learn, look forward to keeping all of you posted and thank you once again for your constant support."

Nuno was given a tough assignment when he was finally chosen as Jose Mourinho's successor in the summer. He was not the club's first choice and seemed to exert no authority over the squad, with the team often looking confused on the pitch.

While chairman Daniel Levy promised fans that Spurs would return to their "DNA" with attacking football this season, Nuno could not offer that and instead saw his side capitulate more often than they impressed.
