Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brushed off talk of extending his contract at Manchester United, saying his own situation will take care of itself as long as the team is getting results.

It seems like just yesterday that 47-year-old signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford, but time flies when you're having fun. And also when you're not having fun and you're having a pandemic instead, apparently.

The Norwegian took charge of his 100th United game earlier this month, and enters the final year of his contract next season. The results have been mixed during his tenure, and so far, there has been no real talk of a renewal.

One thing that has never been in doubt is his commitment to the role, however, and as he approaches the halfway point of his contract, he says he is only thinking about getting the best out of his players.

“We live in a results business and all I want is for Man United to improve as a team and as a club," he said via the Manchester Evening News. “I have very good dialogue with the club all of the time.

“You have to think long-term and short-term – and I would never ever think that this is my chance to prove a point and that it's all about me.

“That's not what it's about here. Every decision I make is for the good of Man United. For me, it's about results and if we keep improving we have a very good opportunity because this team and this squad is going places.”

Solskjaer's United take on Southampton on Sunday looking to climb into the top half of the Premier League table by winning one of the two games they have over much of the division. After that, it's the visit of PSG in the Champions League, a game which will take on particular significance for Solskjaer.

It was a Champions League tie against Les Parisiens side that arguably earned him the job in the first place, as United famously overturned a first-leg deficit to make the quarter-finals in 2018/19 with a 3-1 win in France.
