Liga MX giants Club America have signed Pachuca defender Kevin Alvarez as part of the Eagles' bid to restructure the team ahead of the 2023 Apertura.
"I'm already an Águila," Kevin Álvarez announced on social media.
The 24-year-old arrives at the Águilas' nest with over 120 caps for Pachuca and the recent distinction of defending Mexico at the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. With the Tuzos, he scored five goals and was instrumental in the championship run during the Apertura 2022 Liga MX tournament by helping defeat Toluca 8–2 in aggregate after beating América 3–2 also in aggregate.
He joins a defensive line rife with right-backs Luis Fuentes, Miguel Layún and Emilio Lara, who have rotated in the position since Jorge Sánchez moved in 2022 to Dutch Eredivisie giants AFC Ajax.
Former USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter had been in conversations for the Américanista gaffer role as well as in the purview of Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam. However, reports on June 15 confirmed that Brazilian coach, André Jardine, had accepted the position after a stint with Atlético San Luis.
Liga MX's Apertura tournament kicks-off at the end of this month.
