Pavel Nedved dismisses rumours of Antonio Conte return
Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved has dismissed talk of Antonio Conte returning, claiming the club have full faith in Massimiliano Allegri.
It's been a disastrous start to the 2022/23 campaign for the Italian side, with them being knocked out in the group stages of the Champions League and sitting sixth in Serie A, 10 points behind leaders Napoli.
Calls are growing for Allegri to be relieved of his duties, as are rumours of Tottenham's Conte returning to replace his compatriot.
When asked about such talk though, Nedved stated there are no plans to dismiss Allegri, who still has the full support of the higher-ups.
“Our position is always the same, what we always said: the club, players and everyone have full faith in coach Allegri," he told DAZN.
"It’s normal when not getting the wins Juve expect that names will emerge in the media, there will probably be more, but we remain firm on our position. We’ll give him the opportunity to do his work and do it well.”
Many of Juventus' players have been out injured for a large portion of the current campaign, which the VP says is one of the main reasons for the club struggles.
When the squad is fully fit again, he's confident things will improve.
“I again don’t want it to look like alibis, but if you look at the ideal starting XI, there are so many of them who aren’t here, like Bremer, [Angel] Di Maria, [Federico] Chiesa, [Paul] Pogba, [Leandro] Paredes, many others," he stated.
“This team was built with a sense of logic, plus young players on the bench who today will have the chance to prove they belong at Juve. I hope to see that team for at least one game over the next few months, although perhaps we’ll have to wait until after the World Cup.
“That too is a concern, as so many of them will be going to the World Cup.”
