Peter Crouch hails Liverpool's 'signing of the season' candidate
- Crouch has praised new signing Szoboszlai
- The Hungarian has been compared to Gerrard
- Crouch also assessed Liverpool's title credentials
Peter Crouch has praised the early season performances of Dominik Szoboszlai, hailing the new Liverpool midfielder as a potential "signing of the season".
The Reds made Szoboszlai their most expensive signing of the summer window when he joined the club from RB Leipzig for his £60m release clause, and has so far lived up to his loft price tag.
The midfielder has thoroughly impressed Liverpool fans with his eye for goal and incredible range of passing - even drawing comparisons with Anfield legend Steve Gerrard during the first few weeks of the season.
Speaking exclusively to 90min, the ex-Liverpool forward and England international gave his thoughts on Szboszlai and the Gerrard comparisons.
"I love him, I'm jumping right on the bandwagon. Obviously I've got a lot of Liverpool fans as friends and lot of Scousers still in the family as well, and they absolutely love him," Crouch said.
"He's a class act. I seen him a little bit beforehand [prior to signing for Liverpool] but it's surprised me how well he's taken to playing at Anfield. Even in the first it, straight away he was like a Rolls Royce in there. He's a class act. He could end up being one of the signings of the season - he's that good."
The Hungarian has been key to Liverpool's flying start to the 2023/24 Premier League season. Liverpool have taken 13 points from an available 15 thus far however, when asked about the club's title credentials, Crouch admitted that the Reds are still not ready to go toe to toe with Man City.
On Liverpool's title challenge, he said: "Not quite [equipped to challenge City]. I think it's been really exciting and been a good start for Liverpool, especially from where they were last year.
"You wouldn't bet against them. Obviously they'll improve on last year but City just seem to be a machine at the minute. I think Liverpool get much closer, and I think they challenge Arsenal but I just think they're a little bit short of City still."
