Premier League midfielders - 2022/23 power rankings

With the Premier League season now over halfway through, a number of midfielders have hit top form and are standing out from the crowd.
Controlling games and dictating tempo is the name of the game for some, while others are looked at to be in the anchors in front of defence - ensuring very little is able to penetrate the midfield lines.
Here's 90min's ten most in-form midfielders in the 2022/23 Premier League campaign...

10. John McGinn (down 1)
Enzo Fernandez's stay in the top ten was short lived as he's ousted by the in-form John McGinn.
The diminutive Scot has always given 100% but there's so much more to his game than energy and aggression in the tackle. Unai Emery has struck a chord with McGinn and he's flourishing in an improving side.
9. Joelinton (down 1)
Come on then, who had Joelinton on their 90min's Premier League midfield power rankings card?
Not many is the answer to that, though watching the Brazilian season you'd struggle to think why.
8. Alexis Mac Allister (down 1)
The World Cup winner is proving his worth each and every week at Brighton and looks destined for big things.
Expect one of the Premier League powerhouses to put in a big bid for the midfielder this summer.
7. Eberechi Eze (new entry)
Eberechi Eze had played the full 90 minutes just six times under Patrick Vieira this season, scoring four Premier League goals.
With Roy Hodgson in the dugout on an interim basis, Eze has moved centrally, played eight full games in a row and scored six goals – some of them absolute pearlers.
6. Ilkay Gundogan (new entry)
Manchester City's push for the treble has reached top gear, as has the performance level of captain Ilkay Gundogan.
The 32-year-old bagged classy braces in the wins over Leeds and Everton - his first goal against the latter being a sublime finish - and there's still few better than the German in the box-to-box role.
5. Bruno Fernandes (up 1)
At the heart of (most of) Manchester United's attacks this year has been Bruno Fernandes - who is back to his best without Cristiano Ronaldo clogging his sight-lines.
That's when he's not arguing with officials, of course, or getting pumped 7-0 by Liverpool.
4. Martin Odegaard (down 1)
After a decent 2021/22 campaign, Martin Odegaard has, like his Arsenal teammates, taken things up a notch this season.
The Norwegian has shone in a leadership capacity and is undoubtedly the jewel in Mikel Arteta's crown.
3. Bruno Guimaraes (up 1)
Newcastle fans will argue Bruno Guimaraes is the best Bruno in the Premier League (and quite possibly the best Bruno ever, apologies to any wrestling fans with an affinity for the late, great Bruno Sammartino).
He's certainly integral to the Magpies because results dipped dramatically during his time out injured.
2. Rodri (-)
One of the most consistent performers in the Premier League, Rodri continues to be Manchester City's metronomic-like figure in midfield.
The Spaniard ticks things over like no other and is one of the most crucial cogs in Pep Guardiola's wheel.
1. Kevin De Bruyne (-)
There's not much to say about Kevin De Bruyne that hasn't already been said.
The Belgian is really, really, ridiculously good, and we're at the point of the season where he shows his electrifying best form.
