Premier League: The most goals scored by one player in a 38-game season
By Euan Burns
A certain Norwegian striker at Manchester City is rewriting the record books and may well do so for many years to come, and he goes by the name of Erling Haaland.
The former Borussia Dortmund forward has enjoyed a frankly ridiculous first season in the Premier League and is undoubtedly the best striker in the division already. Those who already hold various scoring records in the Premier League must be slightly nervous about the way he has taken to life at City.
Here is a look at where he currently ranks among the other great Premier League goalscorers over a 38-game season.
Who has scored the most goals over a 38-game Premier League season?
Erling Haaland may not have reached the end of the season just yet but he has already got this record sewn up with five games to play.
During the 4-1 win over Arsenal which swung the Premier League title race back in City's favour, Haaland grabbed his 33rd league goal of the season. That was the record-breaker, having matched Mohamed Salah's record of 32 goals in just his 29th game of the season.
Having reached that milestone so early, Haaland is now set to stretch well beyond it as his unstoppable form continues right to the end of the campaign. He grabbed his 34th of the season in a 2-1 win away at Fulham from the penalty spot, before setting his sights on West Ham.
That is where he grabbed his 35th strike which makes him the player with the most goals in any Premier League season. Andy Cole and Alan Shearer held this record for getting 34 in 1993/94 and 1994/95 respectively, but those seasons had 42 games to play. Haaland's goal against the Hammers takes him to 35 in the Premier League, and there are still another five games for him to potentially score in before the season is over.

How many goals has Erling Haaland scored this season?
While Haaland's Premier League form has dazzled everyone, it is hardly like he has confined his efforts to the one competition.
The Norwegian is known to absolutely adore playing in the Champions League and has really shown that this season. His Champions League tally would make a fair few Premier League strikers pretty happy.
In the eight games that he has currently played with a semi-final against Real Madrid to come, Haaland has scored 12 times. He got five in the group stages before notching five in one game as City thrashed RB Leipzig 7-0 in the last 16 second leg. Another two came in the quarter-final against Bayern Munich.
The domestic cup competitions have not been where most of his football has been played. He still has the FA Cup final to come but he scored three times in the three games he has played in that tournament, but could only manage one goal in two Carabao Cup appearances.
Altogether, Haaland has been involved in 45 games of football so far this season and has managed to net a frankly ridiculous 51 times. He will not end the season on that figure either.
