Premier League predictions: Gameweek 23

Premier League teams head into Gameweek 23 of the 2023/24 season knowing the weekend's results could have a huge effect on the season's run-in.

Sunday sees title contenders Arsenal and Liverpool duke it out at the Emirates Stadium, with Manchester City lurking behind a day later hoping to take advantage when they visit Brentford.

Before then, however, Tottenham will take on Everton in Saturday's early kick-off, with relegation contenders Burnley, Luton Town and Sheffield United all in action.

Here's how 90min sees Gameweek 23 playing out.

Saturday 3 February

Gameweek 23 begins with an enticing offering from Goodison Park where Everton host Tottenham. The Toffees are winless in five league fixtures, with Spurs hopeful of going level on points with Arsenal with a victory.

Brighton and Crystal Palace partake in the 'M23 derby' - just don't call it that in front of any fans - in one of three 15:00 GMT kick-offs. The Seagulls' inconsistency was highlighted by a shocking 4-0 defeat to Luton last time out, while Roy Hodgson got a much-needed three points when his side edged Sheffield United 3-2 at Selhurst Park.

With games against Liverpool and Arsenal on the horizon, Burnley could do with a quick response to their loss at Manchester City when Fulham arrive at Kenilworth Road. The Clarets are eight points from safety, while the Cottagers are winless in their last five matches in all competitions.

Newcastle United defied the form charts with just their second away league win of the campaign as they breached the fortress of Villa Park. The Magpies are now tasked with earning back-to-back top-flight victories for the first time since December against a Luton Town side unbeaten in their last five outings.

Saturday evening's Premier League offering comes live from Bramall Lane as Chris Wilder seeks just a second league win since returning as Sheffield United manager. Proceedings won't be easy against Aston Villa, who dropped out of the top four after their defeat to Newcastle.

Sunday 4 February

The steam in Bournemouth's train seems to have run out of late. The Cherries have taken a point from recent fixtures with Tottenham, Liverpool and West Ham, having previously won six of seven matches. A chance to jump back on the horse comes as Nottingham Forest, fresh from two league losses on the trot, visit the south coast.

Chelsea were like deers in the headlights in their 4-1 thrashing at Anfield, enjoying little control during proceedings, and a positive result may not materialise when Wolves, themselves beaten by Manchester United in dramatic fashion, arrive at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United will again be hopeful their latest victory can spark a consistent run of form, with returning players boosting Erik ten Hag's choices. West Ham United travel to Old Trafford planning a first win at the home of the Red Devils since 2021, when Manuel Lanzini scored the only goal of the game.

A true title ding-ding rounds off Sunday's action. A festive blip has seen Arsenal drop five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who scored a mental victory over the Gunners with an FA Cup victory at the Emirates Stadium in January.

Monday 5 February

It's been a while since Erling Haaland last scored a Premier League goal, hasn't it?

The Norwegian behemoth may well get his first start since early December on Monday night, with Manchester City looking to continue their strong recent run. Brentford's dark arts nearly earned them points at Tottenham on Wednesday, but the Bees may need more than the odd Neal Maupay poke against the treble winners.
