Premier League predictions: Gameweek 4

Just as the shiny new Premier League season gathers pace, the September international break looms on the horizon.

The mysterious fixture generator has spat out an intriguing glut of matchups for the final round of top-flight matches before the scores of internationals littered across the division jet off to each corner of the globe.

Kenilworth Road gets its long awaited Premier League debut, an early relegation six-pointer awaits and a classic rivalry at the top of the table is dusted off once again.

Premier League predictions: Week 4

For the fourth time on the spin, the Premier League weekend begins on Friday night. Luton Town will contest their first top-flight fixture in 31 years against a high-flying West Ham United under the newly refurbished lights of Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters are one of four clubs yet to collect a single point this season. That number is guaranteed to dwindle this weekend as the winless duo of Sheffield United and Everton face off at Bramall Lane on Saturday lunchtime.

Despite registering as many shots on target as Arsenal and the much-lauded Tottenham Hotspur, Everton are the only team yet to score this season. The Blades will certainly give Everton chances - no side has conceded more shots than Sheffield United - but whether the Toffees will take them is an entirely different concern.

Spurs are expected to maintain their scoring streak with a trip to Burnley's Turf Moor in one of four 15:00 BST kick-offs on Saturday. The west London duo of Brentford and Chelsea are also favourites to earn three more points during the TV blackout window against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest respectively.

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City not only have an objectively superior squad but the weight of history on their side when they come up against Fulham this weekend. City have won their last 14 meetings with Fulham across all competitions, a sickeningly one-sided track record that doesn't look like changing.

If Fulham's trip to the Etihad appears predictable, anything could happen when Newcastle United make the long journey south to Brighton on Saturday evening. The two halves of this avian derby were both promoted to the Premier League in 2017 and are preparing for European competition six years later. While the Seagulls have exploited the edge afforded by industry-leading statistical analysis, the Magpies' upward trajectory has been supercharged by a cash injection from their controversial owners.

Roy Hodgson may have scouted Gary O'Neil during his playing days but didn't meet the former midfielder until Crystal Palace hosted Bournemouth last May. O'Neil has swapped the Cherries for Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer and will be hoping for a change in scoreline as well after losing 2-0 on his previous trip to Selhurst Park.

Liverpool welcome Aston Villa to Anfield on Sunday afternoon in one of the most exciting fixtures of the weekend. Unai Emery's visitors are just as firmly tethered to an outrageous high line as Jurgen Klopp's side but both clubs still have some wrinkles to iron out - between them, Liverpool and Aston Villa's matches this season have already produced 23 goals.

A fixture dripping in Premier League heritage concludes Gameweek 4 as Arsenal host Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. Neither side has particularly impressed across the opening three weeks of the new season, leaving the loser - should there be one - with plenty to mull over during the long international break.
