With Declan Rice retained and their squad bolstered, West Ham were seemingly primed for another prosperous campaign. But instead, the ghosts of previous eras have manifested once again. The Irons have endured a miserable domestic season and the prospect of relegation cannot be ruled out.

Southampton at home? Talk about must-win. The Hammers have come up with the goods in crunch encounters against Everton and Nottingham Forest on home soil in recent weeks, and they must provide again to begin April.
